Funi has Dragonball Kai (Confirmed)

I'm really conflicted here. I have the Pioneer discs, the Funi singles, the UUSE discs, and Season 1 of the "widescreen release" (I call my section of Dragonball/Z/GT discs "The Wall"). With that in mind:

Is it really necessary to get Kai? A part of me says no since it sounRAB like an even more edited version of DBZ (content and picture). On the other hand, it would be nice to watch the show on Blu-Ray.

On a related note, I'm also on the fence about the Dragonboxes which I'm thinking may be re-released on Blu-Ray.

Maybe keep Goku... they could probably find a better choice now and one that doesn't have to fly in from New York to record.

Keep Sabat as Piccolo but have him use a more natural voice.

No qualms with keeping Nadonley as Gohan but Maxey Whitehead would be a fine replacement if she's not around.

Trunks isn't in Kai... yet anyway. Eric Vale was alright though his acting was pretty bad back in the day. They have better options now but with better acting Vale would be fine.

Keep Sonny Strait for Krillin and John Burgmeier for Tenshinhan.

Chichi and Bulma's voices are fine but they could probably do better now.

Vegeta's gotta go. Iconic as the voice is, it's just not appropriate. Same goes for Frieza.

Yes. It would be called simply Dragonball Z. However, it would be expensive as all can be to produce and own when you try to release all 291 episodes of DBZ Classic on Blu-ray than the cheaper-to-produce DVD format. Especially considering that the Funi average for their 26-episode Blu-ray sets is three discs - 9 on the first 2, 8 on the third. Since I refuse to watch Kai due to the animation problems (I like my seizure-inducing violence), you can determine how many will go to cover the individual arcs for the Kai Blu-ray release.

You know, if I was FUNimation?
You can call Shenanigans on me for suggesting it, but since I am Pro Blu-Ray?
I totally gotta think they'd release Kai like the Japanese are, especially since I'm hearing from ANN's Podcast with Lance and Adam? On Amazon anyway, their blu-rays sell more than their dvRAB do.

I believe I misread your last post's second paragraph, so that's a mistake on my part.

Anyhow, the point you're making is...you want your violence and different colors. The Dragon Box is for you (as it is me). You can easily ignore Dragon Ball Kai, because I doubt it is going to be a replacement for Dragon Ball Z in HD. Toei will likely go back to the 16mm prints of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT in the future to create 1080p prints for Blu-ray.

I'm hesitant to post at all following up on this, but I can't help but feel that it's a ridiculous pot-shot and you shouldn't be allowed to hide out on some other forum and post like this. Who are these "ingrates" that you're talking about? Me? Julian? We're the only two who run the site. Have we ever said something in regard to a FUNimation product in a way that was factually incorrect? Has that negatively shaped your own opinion on their products, and you're upset at us for doing that?

Are you tossing out a blanket statement about the forum on our website? That's pretty ridiculous. Our forum does not equal Daizenshuu EX as an entity... though I am incredibly proud and thankful to have the raw nuraber of DBZ fans that we do that chose us as a gathering place to voice their opinions. Clearly at least one of them has already taken issue with your statement, too.

In no way am I a moderator of this forum and in no way would I presume to know how they want to run things... but I have to imagine they wouldn't want their own merabers tossing random insults with no backing out at other communities. You're talking about a product that has barely been "announced" (if you want to even call it that), and you're already taking shots at another group of fans. That's pretty ridiculous.

They will...They will.
But...violence and different colors? Is that little mean? At least in the classic DBZ animation, effort been made to that series. Unlike Kai, which is pretty much taking something that many ppl work so hard on and editing it and calling it their own.

Does Bulma's VA (Tiffany Vollmer) even still do work? It feels like It's been ages since I've heard her.

The one thing that disappoints me is that I'll never get to see my favorite villain re-dubbed in Kai:

.......Come on. he wasn't THAT bad.

Well, I'm indifferent about it. The series itself I don't really care for but I am curious about the new dub.

I'm quite content with the excellent Dragon Box sets as far as owning DBZ goes so I might not even bother buying this.

Wow, that's surprising. I'm surprised.

I mean, I'm not, but, still.

And DBZKai is a much better name than DragonBall Kai, honestly. "Kai" is more like a subtitle, honestly; it's like DragonBall Z: Renewed or something and it makes a lot more sense with the "Z" in there.

Now we see how this pans out... what will the release schedule be like? How will the dubbing go? When will we see the release? I look forward to that (though I kinda doubt I'll ever buy Kai).

Yeah, me too. Linda Young's a great voice actress, but why they thought Freeza should sound like that I will never understand.

Unless she's like Schemmel and she only does Bulma, she hasn't done much else for them.

*Garlic Jr was only fun when you closed your eyes and you imaged Pilaf was there instead of Garlic Jr.

Both for me, I am only watching the new one for HD purposes to tell you the truth though I really don't see a point to this thread. Like Jacob said these are 2 totally different experiences.
