Full metal alchemist: Ed's arm.

nerves aren't just used to sense pain so maybe he dosen't have pain receptors in his arm he didn't seem to be in much pain when scar blew his automail arm up

I am sorry to maybe change the conversation cause I do get you all are talking about how he could be or not be in pain for transmuting his arm but I wanna talk about the possiblity of automail in general. This is a theory or maybe an opinion I found off the net and it seems very thorough and I wanna get all your opinions on it regardless that we don't know about that kind of science but you do know alot about FMA.

Any opinions or thoughts on this? And btw it talks about how we move our regular lirabs at the beginning.

Hi guise,
I recently re-watched FMA, and thought of something.
If Ed's auto-mail arm is hooked up to his nervous system like they say it is, shouldn't transmuting his arm be excruciatingly painful?
It would be like melting down your arm and change it into something else.
That really bugs me. *shudder*

I think this person is maybe talking about it in theory or somethnig. But maybe when technology becomes alot better it could be possible. But I don't think it has yet been figured out for nerves in the arm or leg to get put on metal and have the arm work like a normal arm.

yea, i guess you're right. those prosthetics have very limited motion from what i've heard. i bet the japanese will be the first ones to develop something like that!

Thats actually very funny and could be very true just because they are very advanced in technology or so I think. But you know I just thought of something if automail existed and stuff and lets say that person was a athlete and they lost there arm for some reason and got automail. And they won a competition it would be questioned that the automail helped them out so someone would make it out that they were cheating.

What I wonder is how he manages to transmute his arm and not even break a sweat.
And right off the bat, too. Does he just grin and bear it? Or can he turn off his arm nerves? Are they already dead from being morphed around? So many questions!

automail would probably be banned from athletic contests because of that. i guess if an athlete ever lost a foot or something, they'd have to retire even though they could get auto mail. also, i bet auto mail would be super expensive...

Yep thats right only people would could afford it is rich people and I bet even they wouldn't do it cause I bet even though so far its fictional I bet the pain from automail in FMA is realistic. Like it would be only for someone who can take the pain cause it could almost kill a person.

Umm...? I don't think so, he never appears to have any pain doing it... I always thought he could do it and it wouldn't hurt, regardless that is was connected to his nerves. It's probably just like a new arm... It won't hurt when he move, but idk D:

When you think about it then it should really hurt him and probably does, but he doesn't show it, remeraber this is the guy who put Al's soul into armor with his leg missing and pouring with blood.
