i guess if i had some sort of fundamental disagreement with unemployment benefits i might take a pay cut to be "personally responsible" but i don't, so i'm not
 
it's one thing to have compassion... but I mean really, after someone's been on welfare for two years, wtf are they doing? There needs to be some incentive for them to get off their ass.
 
I know in the US the employer has to pay something for this but here we don't. It gets paid 100% by the EI premiums that the employee and the employer pays on employee wages. Apparently everyone is getting approved because it's easier to just rubber stamp people that might cause trouble and dispute it over and over again. I am still getting shit in the mail over a kid that faked a workers comp claim here in 1998 for fuck sakes. He's still fucking disputing the settlements 12 years later
 
also automakers are building more factories in the south because of the absence of unions and lower labor costs

but none of them exist in a vacuum, and there are no control groups or anything here... which is why econ professors from harvard and kellogg and whatever can disagree about this shit

I just refuse to believe that there's a simple "LOL ITS BECAUSE OF THIS" explanation when there are so many different factors at work
 
It's $10.25 here now and the left wingers are screaming because they want it to go to $16+. The Liberal government that implented this shit knew they fucked up last summer and talked about postponing or delaying the increase that just happened here but their base went nuts and they were afraid of losing votes so they just went ahead with it. Best part is before they did this they had a study done by a world reknowned expert on wages and his recommendation was to NOT increase the minimum wage at all. They completely ignored the report they commissioned and went ahead and did it anyway.

I make over 50k... my gripe is some people get sooo many combined handouts, that it is literally equivalent to my (post deduction) paychecks. ALL FOR NOTHING... NOTHING. STAYING AT HOME AND WATCHING TV. FOR OVER A YEAR.

Do you fucking not understand how that is just fucked up?

I have every right to be angry about that. As of last year, I no longer favor the democratic party.

And I'm sure as fuck glad that I didn't vote.

Sure, some people are born into shitty environments, and some people have bad luck, but how much rope do you give them? At some point people have to do something for themselves.
 
They cleaned up the fucking mess the NDP (labor party) made back in the late 80's/early 90's and they almost bankrupted the province. Guaranteed as soon as they come in they are going to crack down on some of the stupid shit that has been going on like public servants making well over $100000 a year to do a job that pays half that in the private sector. Unions are not going to be happy for sure.

I am not talking about the bailouts. I am taking about the tax cuts that were paid for by tacking the costs of those cuts on to the deficit that we are ALL going to have to pay back.
 
except my step sister somehow managed to pull it off. she quit her job in florida, moved to georgia, filed unemployment and they wouldn't give it to her. she claimed they were going to lay her off anyway and as it turned out they had a phone call with her employer that said she was late, called in too much, left early, blah blah blah and she still got unemployment even though they were going to fire her but she quit before.

i guess it was good because shes got two kids...but she didn't start looking for a job until she had two weeks left on unemployment...with two kids
