True but unemployment isnt that high of a wage either, varying by where you live, and if you have any half marketable skill should be able to make more than it pays, even if it not your ideal wage.
 
if you can't get one job, then get two. Places ARE hiring, it's just that people feel too entitled to have to work two jobs...god forbid.
 
yeah, you guys are going through a few things i remember reading about your deficits. you really think the conservatives will really do anything though?
 
That bill includes the extension of a much needed COBRA subsidy (I know this first hand as I help administer benefits for companies with laid off employees) and tax breaks. It's a mixed bag, but honestly I'd rather see more money added to the deficit than wasted in defense measures overseas, as it will continue to be. A lot of the provisions in the bill are meant to appease certain segments of the population, like the three year delay in cuts to payments to doctors who accept Medicare. Seniors are already livid and scared into thinking their Medicare is going to be taken away from them so you have to not make them mad. The unemployed are the unemployed and will vote later based on how they are treated now.

Learn to live within your means.

A minimum wage job won't pay for a home and a new car, but it will pay (at least in my area) for a shared apartment and a bus pass.
 
Philosophically I can see this. But look at the reality today. We have had Reganomics for ~30 years and what did that bring us? The near collapse of our economy. That is not conjecture. That is the fact. The reality. It is all around us.

Cutting taxes does not create jobs, it does not grow our economy, what it did was shift a huge amount of wealth from the middle class to the top. As a whole, a person has LESS purchasing power for money earned in a 40 hour week now than they did in 1980.
 
Ontario, Canada. Labor leaders have determined that supposedly $16 is how much the minimum wage "should be" and still live above the poverty line. Complete fucking bullshit. I made $6 an hour is college and lived with 2 room mates, always had food to eat, cable tv and a phone.
 
Where is your "fuck you Republicans" thread for the trillions in handouts they gave to the rich in order to stimulate our economy and create jobs that has led us to where we are at right now?
 
True. But unemployment wouldn't be enough "income" in those cases either. So extension of benefits isn't really helping anyone in this case.
 
Don't some states provide incentives for getting even a shitty job?

Like you still retain some welfare benefits and you can get them for longer or something.
 
I know quiet a few hard core repubs that lost jobs in the last few years that sucked that government tit until it was dry.
 
Compassion isn't going to help the same people that are still unemployed after the next extension is up and they still haven't got a job. Get your ass out and fucking do something until you can find a job in your field. One of my buddies owns a large car dealership and has a 50+ year old guy working as his lot attendant right now because he got laid off from his job as a warehouse supervisor. Guy could have gone on UI for almost a year but took a job instead because he isn't a worthless, lazy fuckhead. I have a million times more respect for that guy than anyone on benefits. You should be embarassed to tears if you are on benefits for more a couple of months.
