It may or may not be. The tax code is really a mess and gives some unfair
advantage. Don't blame the rich, blame those that write the tax laws.
OTOH, a lot of people seem to think "tax the rich" is going to solve all our
problems. This is mostly people that think being rich is an inherently bad
thing. Mostly because they are jealous of what others accomplished.

Rather than complain about tax breaks for the rich, become rich yourself.
They did it, you can do it. Then you can willingly send the government as
much of your money as you please.

When was it they passed the luxury tax on expensive boats and cars? That
backfired when the rich stopped buying them and the middle class people
that built them lost their jobs.

One year my union signed a contract with out provincial government.
Within a month of that deal being made the government came out with a
story about how the financial situation was worst than they had thought.
They seemed to have lots of money for the special interest groups who
helped them win the election, though the win had more to do with disgust
over the previous government

At any rate, they decided that best thing to do was to have everyone
take time off without pay. I never took my time off. I figured that they
might come to their senses and cancel that idea. They didn't, but there
came a point where I had already lost my money but could not take the
time off.

Not a problem. I worked out of a satellite facility. I didn't have a
boss watching me come and go. I made up for the lost time. I was late
every morning and left every afternoon for several years. I more than
made up for the money they had screwed me for.

The way I figure it, the government should have known about the
financial situation. I wonder if they were too stupid to realize how bad
things were, or how sleazy they were that they would go ahead and sign a
deal knowing that they were just going to renege on it.

What lies they be????????? Twice now I've said that our state employees are
taking a pay cut in the form of days off. Last years I made less than the
previous year and the previous year I made less than the year before that.
Same hours worked I've had to cut my spending, no reason the government
can't do the same.

Oh, I also just sent in my quarterly Medicare premium and they still take
Medicare from my paycheck. Of course, to get decent coverage I have a
supplement. Great deal on mandatory healthcare.

A 15 yr old boy with unusual voice. Discovered singing on a Seattle Street.
Vince Mira, 15, is a somewhat shy kid who looks uncomfortable during a TV
interview. But, when he steps up to the microphone to sing Johnny Cash's
classic "Ring of Fire" the result is downright spooky. He performs this song on
the Good Morning America show.

There is a short commercial at the beginning of the clip, but let it run,
you'll be glad you did...

If a company loses even 1?, no one should be getting a bonus. Execs should
also get the same percentage as the workers do. In our company, if anyone
gets a bonus, everyone gets one. In good years, they have been quite nice
too.

That is basically what happened with my brother. His boss kept boosting
his quota. He got so fed up that he quit.... at age 62. He was so fed
up with getting screwed around that he just couldn't be bothered going
to work anymore.

Our management got a bonus based on the amount of money they saved. We
made a point of cutting back on our work. They also had quotas for our
work performances and those quotas were passed on to us. We just stopped
meeting those quotas.

That was easy enough to do. There was a number of people assigned to our
district. Someone in head office figured out how many of each unit we
should each be doing and multiplied by the number of staff. Some of our
staff were on secondment to other jobs, on sick leave, compensation,
unpaid leave etc. In their minds, the rest of us would have to do more
to account for those who were not in the field. Somewhere along the
line, our managers had to account for why we weren't meeting our
objectives.

What if your division makes money but the company as whole loses money?
No bonus?

Yup. Almost killed my BIL's business. Luckily he managed to
turn things around and rehire all the people he'd had to lay off,
people who'd been working for him for decades. Way to go.

What does that have to do with a worker going to a new employer? Perhaps
you misunderstood. They were not offered by GM, they were offered in other
local companies that were hiring. Area warehouse jobs pay $12 to $15, but
the former GM workers did not want them at that rate.

That's his problem. If he is self employed he can give himself a raise

We had an interesting situation here in Ontario when we had a government
who had a hate on for teachers. They disregarded all the after hours
work, marking, prep time etc and dumped on them for the common
misperception that they only worked 6 hours a day. They tried to force
teachers to do extracurricular activities. It is amazing how many people
agreed that since the teachers worked with children that they should be
willing to stay after work to provide free services for their kids. IMO,
that is sort of like suggesting that cops should be expected to go and
work security in local malls for free.

We had one government who saw the value of self directed work teams.
They spent a lot of money training us in the work team concept. It was
working great. Management didn't like it. I guess they felt threatened
and they couldn't always get their way. They sabataged it.

Indeed. Johnny Cash had a coolness to him that even in his later
years he still seemed to always be on the cutting edge of contemporary
music, covering Alternative songs in the late 90's, and many believe
now that Johnny Cash was in fact the first Alternative artist as his
music often seemed to have a dark tone to it. I am happy to see the
younger generation embracing somebody like Johnny Cash as opposed to
the overproduced, Autotune-enhanced stuff these days that passes as
music.
