I have been having the same issue for close to 4 years. I thought it might be the tongue weakening, however, I'm only 32!! I also have very mild cerbral palsy, but this really came on very suddenly and hasn't gone away. I have realized the last few months that certain fooRAB would bring about this discomfort, starting with vegetable fried rice. Now, I would pretty much avoid all the hard vegetables due to choking fears, and eat just rice and peas. Even s o, I would STILL get that stuck feeling, thinking, can I choke on peas & rice??!! But reading this board and these symptoms of acid reflux, I think this is what I was suffering these four years!!
I went also for a barium swallowing test, which came out normal. The doc was even reassuring me during the procedure. Not only that, my GP didn't even call me to the office for the results - he told me over the phone. That alone reassured me somewhat, however, to this day I do not know what indeed was the "normal" result outcome. What does normal mean? I know this barium swallow test also shows acid if you have, right? Not sure that.
Anyway, I went to my pharmacist whom I know, and I told him that after eating veg fried rice I feel a sensation of s/th being stuck etc, and he gave me zantac. I tried it & it worked. It goes away in minutes. However, I try not to use it often, b/c I really havent been to a doc for an acid reflux diagnosis, the feeling is there for up to 3 hours. I drink water etc and it just doesn't go.
I also read that acid reflux can cause the esophagus to contract, resulting in a more narrow air way, not permitting food to go down. Have you read this? Maybe have your husband try zantac, or ask for more tests. I'm really nervous about seeing a doc, but how long can one suffer anyway?
