I live in the south eastern most point of australia on the coast and I was outside having a cigarette late march and at about 1.57am local time I saw a yellow light flashing right near Orion. At first i thought it was stationary but it was moving very slowly, i counted about 10 seconds between flashes some very bright, some dim. sometimes the flashes looked to be in a slight different place as if it wasnt moving on one particular path. it caught my eye just above orion, and moved only slightly left in the short time before it dissapeared, bout 10 minutes i watched it for. being an avid stargazer and into astronomy to me it was definitely not a satellite, satellites move across the sky quite quickly and are gone within minutes, it is weird. few ppl have seen it, and those that have, saw it in the same place.
i have heard reports of the same thing in south africa and hawaii around the same time, but I have no answers yet, i have been looking online to find it and have seen a few reports of the sighting but no one can say what it is. has anyone else seen this ?? what do they think ??
i didnt say that orion was visible in all of those places at the same time mate, i said sightings had been reported from those places.
the light moved only part way across the sky, it would flash a few times every 10 seconds, some bright, some not, it started at orions belt and moved only an arms length across the sky.
definitely wasnt an aeroplane, i am a pilot and know the different strobes, beacons and nav lights of all aircraft types.i have spent many a nights watching satellites and shooting stars, this was the first time i had seen something like this, it was definitely abnormal, and the character of the flashes was just bizarre, and its movement across the sky uncharacteristic of a satellite or any space junk.
lol what i meant when i said round the same time, not the same night, around the same period.
thanks ken for the 2 cents lol do satellites normally have a consistant 3 flashes every 10 seconds for 10 minutes? i'm not convinced lol
