First of all just want to say hi to everyone!

I've had a back issue going on for around 2 years now, if not longer. I had a microdiscectomy on my L5-S1 disc for a herniated disc in January of 2008. Therefore it has been a year and 3 months since my surgery. My main, and still ongoing problem has been an ache on the left side of my back near the iliac crest. I have done research, but with so many different problems it's hard to pinpoint what could actually be going on. Here are some of my symptoms:

1) Dull Ache on lower left back near iliac crest
2) It feels as if its a deep tissue bruise
3) Moving around does not hurt much.
4) Bothers me mostly when sitting
5) Right side is fine
6) When I press down on the area it feels as if someone punched me in the area and I have a bruise.
7) Pre-OP bad range of motion/flexibility in legs/hips. Post-OP even worst.

It feels muscular and I'm not sure if it is related to the herniated disc.

When the ache appeared it began to worry me so I got an MRI. The MRI revealed some minor disc bulges above L5-S1, but a nice sized bulge at L5-S1. I can honestly say I feel the same if not worse since the surgery.

I recently have decided that I'm going to partake in a full body transformation. I'm going to focus on core strengthening and see if by getting in better shape this could go away.

** I have a strong suspicion that it could be Sacroiliac joint problems, however no doctor has diagnosed me with anything like that. They seem to focus on the disc problem.

After a microdiscectomy there is a little 'bump' where it was fixed, thus what I read as the firt part of your mri you're talking about on the l5 s1, BUT to have any herniation there now it SOUNRAB as if you reherniated the disc??? What did your doc say of those MRI results? IS who did that surgery who you are still seeing that saw that mri???

I am just curious. I did reherniate, larger than prior to a 2 level micro-d, one of the 2 levels totally just went, dr thinks before recovery room, when peeps are waking and jolting around from waking from anesthesia.

TO have the little bulge nip on there, and a 'nice size bulge' really makes me think your disc is weak and rehernated. That's what it sounRAB like???????

bnelley,

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. My X-ray checked out fine but I'm still waiting to get an MRI. Did you have an X-ray done? What did it look like?

Yea, Its not a bad pain with me either, but sometimes the area can get very tired, like standing for along time doing dishes. It is also very stiff soemtimes, expecially in the morning. I found acupuncture to help alot. I have been wanting to start a killer core strengthening routine aswell.

We should stay in touch and try to beat this together. because I swear our symptoms are identical. I think I may have caused my damage from deadlifts.

Keep in touch

Hey dish. I too lifted a LOT before this problem. I was an avid basketball player/lifter. I always had very bad flexibility so I'm wondering if maybe doing deadlifts did it. I was still lifting though since I had a dull ache. I was in a car accident which made things worse. I left that out lol. After the car accident things got worse and I decided to see a doctor etc etc. Could it be a corabination of a disc and SI joint problems? I'm going to schedule an appt. with my doc and bring it up. I'm 22 and I don't want to feel a bruise on the lower left side of my back for the rest of my life lol.

Was there a specific time when you first injuried your back? Did your surgery help your buldging disc's? How did your back feel after you did deaRAB? The next day after performing deaRAB, my back would be sooo stiff and kindov a bad sore. I'm pretty sure I was doing them wrong. how often were you doing deadlifts and for how long?

Let me know if you start a core strengthening routine and how it makes your back feel. Currently for the past 1.5 months I've been doing some pelvic exercises the physio lady gave me.. the exercises don't seem challenging enough though.

Write back soon Nelley
