Hey everyone, I have my date now. June 3rd, so only 9 days away. I am excited and scared too. SO.... I will keep you all up to date.
Until then

Be sure you read the thread at the top called, "post surgery tips." Lots of great advice there! Now try to keep yourself as busy as you can while you wait for your day. It'll make the time go faster and also help keep you from thinking too much about it.

Do you have any questions we can help you with? Do you know what to expect?

Wishing you the best,
Emily

Hi Celtic, what kind of surgery will you be having? I was scared at first of surgery, but the closer the time came, I lost my nerves about it and actually couldn't wait til it was done. To me, I was in so much pain, I was thinking that surgery would at least help me somewhat. The day of surgery I was happy (I know, strange) and it was all over in a flash (well, when you're put out it seems like a few minutes). Definitely take Blue's advice about reading the sticky posts and ask any more questions...or even just come here to vent any nervousness you may have. I wish you lots of luck!!

I understand completely what you are saying about being scared! I also am experiencing the same feeling...and I should know better...but this is life. Looking forward to the surgery is probably a good idea...looking forward to feeling well again..and being out of pain (eventually). I wish you much success...with your surgery... I know that in the meantime, you will probably have a lot to keep you busy..preparing your home for you...for after the surgery...lots of wonderful hints on this board...and lots of wonderful people to answer your questions. Good luck to you!!!

scared is normal, dont worry.

I didnt sleep at all the night before, too nervous. got plenty of sleep after though :)

as BlueAtlas mentioned the sticky at the top of the forum is chock full of good ideas, for me the most important were

  • everything at counter height.
  • lots of different kinRAB of pillows
  • GRABBERS! at least two so you can pick up the one you dropped
  • detachable shower head to pressure wash your "hard to reach" areas
  • make sure your bath mat is extra large and grippy, I bought a huge kinda fuzzy one that was like grass. slipping in the tub would suck a lot and was not recommended by my doc
  • table by your bed with your meRAB, paper towels, munchies etc
  • fresh batteries for any remotes

The day is almost here - I am thinking of you. Make sure you are all prepared according to the tips they have on this board. Many people don't even realize how important to follow these tips before the surgery and how great this is when you come home back from the Hospital and all this helps you tremendously.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Don't forget the satin bottom sheet. It was the one thing I couldn't do without. It is so hard to turn over to begin with; with a regular sheet, it feels like you are stuck with velcro to the bed. With a satin sheet, it is much easier to turn over.
