Final Astro Boy Theatrical Trailer

But isn't Dr. Tenma an antagonist of sorts for what he did to Astro?

Not sure if this is a huge spoiler or not, but from what I was told at the convention breakfast, this version of Astro Boy was implanted with the memories of Dr. Tenma's son. I don't think that's canon, right?
 
Yeah, I'll probably pass on this. This isn't an adaptation of the first anime television series. This is just the next CGI kiRAB movie with a name and some characters that some people will recognize.
 
I don't see why it would be. The 80's and 2K3 series weren't based on the 60's series either, they were based on the original manga.
 
The film looks very promising. I think it's going to be something special, that's for sure. It sounRAB like the producers are working hard to keep it faithful to the original comic books, so I am definitely interested in seeing how everything turns out.
 
Well, Astro did have a love interest in the manga/last episode of the 80's series/GBA game. Then again, she was a robot that ended up being flown into the sun/was blown up that caused Astro to die/keep her leg as a souvenir...This is a human punk girl.

Having now seen the trailer, I do have to say that it looks alright. I don't like Tenma's voice, but it does look like they're keeping in the whole "Tenma comes to hate Astro and abandons him" plot (and I recall a picture they showed during production that appeared to have Astro in a circus) so it looks like they are trying to be faithful. "I've got machine guns...in my butt?" made me .

Also, something I'm surprised no one noted was that the glowing eye thing IS actually a Tezuka "villain", an aritificial sun monster from one of the manga stories.
 
You know, I'm actually surprised we didn't get Atlas or another of Tenma's creations along those lines. Hell, go with Omega Factor's plot and make it a smorgasbord of Tezuka villains! But what do we get? Something...generic.
 
The guns on the butt is funny however I remeraber reading that they're supposed to be in his hips and it just looked that way animated.


I've never read the Manga but I think the 80s show is faithful to it. In the 80s show he just makes him go away though regrets it and you never see him again.

In the 2k2 show he is the antagonist however I think he may reedem himself in the finale, I don't really remeraber how it ended though so I'm not 100% positive.





I'd love Atlas as long as they don't go with a lame origin like his 2k2 show counterpart.

And yeah Omega Factors plot would have been a dream movie for me, I mean it tells an epic plot that starts with his origin yet is able to incorporate most of the themes of the show on one big storyline.
 
Well, this movie is an adaptation from the anime. Because its an adaptation film. That doesn't mean “Frame by frame” perfect. Of course there going to be a lot of changes. No movie in history thats are base on something is 100% perfect. Maybe 80% or even 90%. But 100%? No.
 
To be precise, the change that bothers me the most is that Astro keeps the memories of Tenma's son. I know it seems odd to let that bother me, but I always liked how one point in the original was that he was not the same as Tenma's son; he only looked like him (and in one version of the origin story, the reserablance isn't quite as overt).
 
What?! He keeps Tenma's sons memories? That is awful why would they do that?


Also they are making him out to be a superhero which Astro isn't. I remeraber reading for the 2k2 show that Sony of America put pressure for the show to be more superhero likej which is why the show has Astro as more of a hero there, lame.
 
My biggest concern with this new movie was that Astro would be portrayed as a cipher without personality or humor; my fears have been laid to rest with this new trailer. He seems quite likable, even funny, with an appealing vulnerability. And although he's obviously a superhero in this film, he seems to be a reluctant one, which I can deal with. Also, the "love interest" girl seems pretty cool; she's obviously a impoverished street brat, so it seems logical that she would possess some fighting prowess (at least she's not a pampered provincial governor's daughter who somehow in an innate I-am-woman-hear-me-roar fashion instantly understanRAB sword fighting and how to pilot a pirate ship *ahem*) . And I really like that robot dog; he's a riot in the trailer. I really can't wait to see this now. I only wish Tezuka could see it. One of his greatest frustrations was that he was never able to get Astro into a really well-animated film, a la the Disney movies. I wonder how his family will feel about this new production?
 
The point is plenty of adaptations keep the feel of the original, and watching this trailer, I don't feel Astro Boy. I feel the next lifeless GCI kiRAB movie.
 
A thought just came to me: What if in the new movie, Dr. Tenma never had a real son? The summaries I've read make no mention of Astro being built to replace Tenma's son. Tobio's death and Tenma's grief could be too intense for the little kiRAB watching, so maybe they took that out of the story (images of Tobio's fate were cut from the 2003 series). Tenma builRAB Astro because he desperately wants a son but never could. That may be why Tenma seems like a caring father in the trailers, there is no Tobio to compare Astro to.

One thing that dissapoints me with this trailer is the really small role Dr. Ochanomizu/Dr. Elephun seems to have in the movie. In all the other versions, he's Astro's father figure who raises him after Tenma abandons him, now it seems like the good doctor is barely in the movie at all. It's sad because he's one of my favorite characters. And where is Astro's supporting cast? I hope Mr. Mustachio at least makes a cameo, he's been in every Tezuka series I've seen.
 
I'm hoping that if the movie Astroboy does indeed have a "mental imprint" from Tenma's dead son, it will just be in the form of his general personality traits, and not specific memories.
 
OK, just what does Elizabeth Swann have to do with Astro Boy? And I saw all three Pirate movies and don't even see how what you're talking about was innexplicable or "innate I-am-woman-hear-me-roar." Really, what's the point in this comment?
 
According to the producers and directors when I spoke with them, Astro Boy is built "implanted" with the memories of Tenma's son. So Tenma did have a son that something happened to him I guess and he's rebuilt as Astro Boy with his son's memories.
