Final Astro Boy Theatrical Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OS9bZhMuEQ

It's as I feared all along. It's astro boy only in name and the design of the main character.

Everything else just feels empty and soulless.

It looks fun and interesting. It does not seem like "Astro boy in name only" from what i have seen, but then again different people get different opinions from the same things. Then again when I want to like something i will ignore most of the bad things and focus on the good for that reason alone.

I want to like Astro boy and i want it to be a good movie so I'm seeing good things from the trailer.

Hmmm....hopefully it'll feature the same themes that they had in the manga, like the value of life, how Dr. Tenma abandoned him because he was a robot, and so on and so forth. If not, then well it's not really Astro Boy.

I like how Osamu Tezuka appears in the movie, and they kept the machine gun butt too.

It's funny because the "I got machine guns...in my butt?" thing probably would have annoyed me if this was any other movie. But he actually had those so I'm like "Ah, they kept that in!"

Wait, what? Did I miss that?

Gendy Tartokovsky is still involved with the Astro Boy movie, isn't he? If he is, I'm willing to give it a chance even though the trailer screams "generic" to me.

The trailer sure felt generic. But, that's all it is. A trailer. I hope they show some themes of life later in the film.

...where? O_O

I don't know what to say about it yet,
I've only heard a little about Astro Boy.

If anything, I'll go to just see the 3-d animation,
since I liked Imagi's work on TMNT.

I'm not sure how well the ultimate plot will play out, but it seems to be easily faithful enough. It's clear that they're sticking very close to the origin story for the character, so the first half at least should be fine. We'll have to see when it comes to the obligatory villain(s).

I'll just copy and paste what I posted on the general animation forum:

I'm still not liking it, I haven't liked it since the first trailer.

The promo pictures that they released first had me very excited, the first teaser had me with mixed feelings, the trailer after I didn't like and I don't like this one either.

I'm a big Astro-Boy fan too, love the 80s show, enjoy the 00's and find the 60s show amusing. I even made an Astro Boy tribute on youtube.

Astro boy looks too human and his hair is not brown and its supposed to be metal not actual hair. Don't like the designs for Tenma or Elefun either or most humans. This feels like an american CGi movie with the Astro license copy and pasted. Which is odd since Astro is not a very well known franchise to todays kiRAB anyway. I really thought this was going to be a "love note" (for lack of a better phrase) to Astro Boy, oh well. Counting all the bad things we've heard about Imagi shortly after TMNT came out with them firing people that were working in their movies doesn't give me any hope at all....

Oh well, I'll still see it we'll see how it goes....Hope Imagi's Gigantor and Gatchaman movies look better than this.

A bit more of my thoughts, it seems odd for Imagi to aquire all these old japanese shows that aren't big anymore randomly. Hopefully its because they care about the franchises and think they can make an awesome story out of them. It could also mean that they chose them since they were cheap for being old franchises that aren't big anymore yet still recognizable.

TMNT turned alright, it was a bit kiddy in some parts but done very well. So hopefully this one is more like that. TMNT also had awful trailers that showed mostly the kiddy stuff after the awesome teaser it had. Maybe Astro is the same.

Then again like I mentioned that article about how Imagi wasn't happy with the direction for the projects and fired all a bunch of people working on their movies to make them more kid friendly...

This seems like a superhero origin film and I'm not liking that either. I think a quick recap of his origin would be best. Like I mentioned I don't like how the humans look or how astro looks very human. I was kind of hoping a different story not the we want astro... I think the story of the 2003 show GBA game would have been awesome as a movie, it quickly tells the origin and ventures into an awesome story filled with the stuff that makes astro well astro. And it does it very well and in such a quick story.

I'll just go ahead and post my thoughts on the cartoons, the 80s show is the first one I saw, this show is so dark and depressing, I love it. This is astro-boy to me, it is also light hearted but dark at the same time, weird to explain. Also this has one of the best final episodes ever. The 2003 show is not liked by a few but I enjoyed it, I was dissapointed that it wasn't a straightforward remake of the 80s show but maybe thats for the best. Didn't like some of the changes too much like Tenma being evil, Atlas a shadow of his former self. This show is a lot lighter than the 80s show but still has a few dark episodes and the story arc which wasn't too engaging actually payed off really well in the finale and had a great end. Also it was awesome to see Astro-boy animated so beautifully. The 60s show the little I've seen of it is quite enjoyable/memorable, its neat seeing storylines from the 80s show/manga and the silly stories.

Speed Racer was an awesome movie, we can only hope its half as good!

Speed Racer was souless junk with no redeeming value. Much like this generic action CGI film. All we're missing are talking animals. But hey, as long as the Gatchaman film doesn't fail like this one.

No, I don't mean that. Speed Racer is the only LAM so far thats decent. I mean, the reason why Speed Racer borab because it was running up against Iron man. And pretty much everyone seen that movie instead of Speed Racer. As long Astro Boy don't have any movies thats big coming in the next two weeks before and or after Astro Boy LAM, it will be safe.

The movie not even release yet and you're saying it a failure. I read a post form the bulbagarden forums saying the it was fail like the live action Dragon ball movie. Y'all be comparing this to live action movie. there are good CGI movie and bad ones.

Now, it's just a trailer, but so far...

1. The human designs are terrible. It's as if for sticking so close to Astro's design, they had to make everyone else look as generic as possible. Dr. Tenma's only recognizable by his hair.

2. What's with the half-hearted voice acting?

3. So...the plot is apparently that the military wants Astro Boy. And senRAB generic video game robots after him.

4. Yes, the Speed Racer movie was awesome, and despite being live-action, actually reserabled the source material more than this.

I really had my hopes up when I saw the first teaser. Really, I was looking forward to it. But this trailer really looks more like someone taking Astro Boy and putting him in a movie desperately trying to be Pixar, and succeeding at neither.

No redeeming value? Speed Racer may be a bit of a mess, but as an experiment in cinematic grammar and as a subversive commentary on the directors' relationship with Hollywood, it's genius. Astro Boy doesn't look great but at the very least the animation looks decent and while it might not be classic Astro Boy it doesn't seem to be desecrating anything either.
