Films that have made you cry, or have put a lump in your throat

Open Water. I cried for ages after it.

I simply couldn't believe I'd paid money to rent out the DVD and then spent the best part of two hours watching such a shit film.

Happy endings usually make me cry - from relief I guess. But the movies I have cried through:
Nicholas' Gift
A Walk to Remember
Miracle in the WooRAB
Escape from Sorbibo

I am sure there are many more, but these four take the cake!

I cry at so many films its intrue .. Et, Titanic, The notebook, Never Been Kissed, Wedding Singer, Top gun (which made me cry for ages when I was little) All girlie soppy movies!

*edit Forgot Forrest Gump, Deep impact, Independence day, Field of dreams, Ghost, Finding Nemo (at the beginning)

Just remembered one of my most biggest cry-fests is Some Kind of Wonderful - when Watts (the tomboy drummer) walks away and her true love runs after her after realising he loves her and gives her the ring he bought with his college fund! Sob! Heartbreakingly sad/happy  :)

My other half always blubs watching Highlander. The bit where Queen are singing "Who wants to live forever", Connor Mcloud is as he was and Heather is a very old woman. True Love!!

Another not mentioned so far, "Mr HollanRAB Opus" is a brilliant film. Probably about 15 years old now. Richard Dryfuss is Mr Holland and the end will get you everytime.

All the usual suspects - Lord of the Rings / ET / Titanic etc, but I usually blub (out of happiness of course!) when Billy Crystal and pals bring home the herd in the great 'City Slickers'.

Shame they all ended up as burgers though... :D

I don't full on cry at films but i do get a lump in my throat and blurred vision. Must say, one part of I am Legend did exactly that. Even though I wasn't particularly thrilled by the movie as a whole I think Will Smith did a stellar job. Some others are:

ET
Philadelphia
Stand by me
Watership Down
The Snowman
The last unicorn

As I managed to get a bit sniffly and teary at the end of Ice Age last night perhaps it would be quicker to mention the films that don't make me cry. But absolute, crying, hysterical breakdowns include...

It's a Wonderful Life - surely everyone cries at the end of that
Brokeback Mountain - 'Jack, I swear...' - cue me wailing hysterically
Schindler's List - the ending nearly killed me
ET - did it again this Christmas
The Railway Children - 'Daddy, my Daddy' gets me every time
Donnie Darko - simply can't cope with him and Gretchen never meeting
Krull :o - It's the bit with the cyclops realising his fate :o
Gone with the Wind - once just caught the last 20 minutes of it, still got me :o

Scene in home alone where that old man is talking to Kevin about not being able to see his family, gets me every time.

And the ending of, ghost.

I've never actually cried at a movie before, i got the old "lump in the throat" at the end of 'The Green Mile' though, but no actual tears. The Green Mile is the closest i've ever got 'upset' at a film if i'm honest, such a poignant ending. But yeah, i agree, it's mainly to do with the powerful musical score that really gets to you, and in the case of 'The Green Mile' it is superbly acted too.

dirty dancing... both my friend and i cried when we watched it together last weekend but then I am pregnant and cry at andrex adverts at the momment and she was hungover so thats some excuse. it was the "nobody puts baby in the corner" ..sniff
