Films that have made you cry, or have put a lump in your throat

im usually a heartless beast when it comes to films, i hate weepies designed to make you cry aka the green mile, ghost etc.. and i never fall for it, but there is one film that gets me every time i see it which is Empire of the sun starring a very young christian bale as a japanese prisoner of war, particularly at the end in the orphanage in shanghi after the war where he's lined up with the other children whilst desperate parents wander around them looking for their lost children and his own come upon him but he cannot remember them as he's forgotten what they look like. And its only when he touches his mothers hair that he recognises her through what she feels and smells like and finally succumbs to a long hug.... gets me every time....

Nowadays, it'd probably be quicker to list the films that don't make me cry. The way things are going, pretty soon I'll be grizzling at "Carry On" films. (Hormones. ;) ).

But I can guarantee I'll blub if I watch "Schindler's List", "The Color Purple" or "Mask". Another film guaranteed to reduce me to tears is an old Bing Crosby one: "Going My Way", especially the bit at the end, when the crotchety old Irish priest is given the chance to see his almost archaeologically-old Irish Mammy before she dies.... :(

Yes, I know, but at the time, you think he dies, at least you do when you're 6! Whenever I watch it, I still feel the same as I did when I was 6. I also didn't like the bit where the dog got porpcupine quills in its face :(

Oh my GOD! Same! I've seen this once and have avoided it ever since! Horribly enough, I watched this film 2 weeks after my dog died 5 years ago. I watched it innocently enough thinking it would be a happy fun family film with them all living happily ever after.... but OH - the last half an hour, i've never cried so much before!

Titanic made my cry too.... and probably still would.
Japanese Story was VERY sad. I think it's the music the play. Someone can die in a film with no music and I won't shed a tear, but bring on a bit of Celine Dion, Enya or panpipe music and I'm bubbling like a baby.

I always cry at Titanic... sad I know, but its not the bit when Jack dies, its the bit where shes old and imagines the staircase bit and then chucks the necklace in the water... i get a bit wet round the eyes if the song comes on the radio to 'oh god!' from my daughter who swiftly changes channel. A few years back when it was on at Christmas, we did not tune in... were half way through scrabble and my husband turned the tv over, in one gulp of sparkly wine mixed with Titanic in the background I choked and coughed for ages!

I cry at Terms of endearment - when the son refuses to be nice to his dying mom... and What Dreams May come always makes me latch onto my nearest and dearest..
Ooh! And on a plane from LA to London cried so much and loudly (whilst wearing headphones, so was not aware of volume of my sobs) that the people up to a few rows forward & back asked me what I watched - as they didn't want too! It was Pay It Forward!

Oh my days! I remember my Dad took us to see this at this cinema, and when Kevin is setting up his traps, and puts the huge nail on the step, I started gettting all wound up and scared, until he was about to stand on it.... then I was promptly sick all over myself!!!

Erm...wrong thread...lol I assume you meant that for the Kate Winslet thread. Thought I'd clicked on the wrong one then, got right confused.

Titanic. When he dies.
Moulin Rouge. When she dies.
Blue Desert. When the she is totally helpless to him.
Sleeping Beauty. When Merlivicent is there...
