Film Previews

I managed to get to a preview of 'The Return' (courtesy of the movie service @ www.magicnumbers.info/index2.html )and it seemed a goodish movie. So much so that I tagged along with some frienRAB to see it some time later when it was out on official release. This time though I thought it was dire - and so did they.

I know you spot the flaws in films when you see them second time around but the contrast this time was overwhelming. Was my initial enthusiasm anything to do with the fact that the preview was free and that we as a rent-a-crowd managed to whip ourselves up to a state beyond hysteria?

Be interested to share experiences/analyses of this bizarre, pathetic phenomenon.

You may have a point.
Years ago I went to a free preview of Robocop where the cinema was full of fans and we all laughed ourselves sick as we realised we were watching a very black satire.
When the film went on general release I went to see it again as a member of a paying, civilian audience. This time there was stunned silence and I think most of this audience thought it was a serious drama.

Went to a preview of Attack of the Clones, and came out feeling my faith had been restored. Saw it again and thought differently. The bit where Padme falls out of the ship, groans a bit, then gets up right as rain is arguably the worst, most unintentionally comical scene in the entire series.

He's OK until he climbs into the turret of his politically correct tank. Then it's rumble-rumble clank-clank all the way to Washington DC.
