Film 2010

I didn't like it. The only thing that i was actually pleased with was the slating that they gave to 'Vampires Suck', but even then they had to resort to quoting someone elses review in their closing comments.

The twitter crap and the 3 "experts" really need to go. Well, i guess the Empire guy was okay, but the stupid up herself woman (who totally lost any credibilty as soon as she made the "i don't like Pixar" comment) and the annoyingly pointless kid need to go. What the hell was that moon thing about? They weren't even good choices (A.I. shouldn't be in anybodies best of anything lists...).

I'll give it a go next week, but if it's as bad as it was this week then i think i'll pass after that.
 
I'm sorry but someone who claims to be into films and cannot recognize that Pixar are probably the best story tellers currently working in the industry at the moment really doesn't deserve that job
 
I'm not saying necessarily in response to viewers. Most of it will be obvious to themselves.

Lots of shows change as they work out what works. The new versions of both Top Gear and Watchdog have been altered significantly since they launched. Heck, some shows, like the Culture Show, are in an almost constant state of flux as they try to bin down a working format.
 
Thanks for the opinions - personally I rate AI very highly and would happily include it in a list of my favourites.

I thought for a first show 2010 got off to a good start. Very conversational - but doesn't that just reflect the fact that film fans love talking about movies? I'll definitely be tuning in for more.
 
It's biggest fail is this sense of me,me,me about it, rather than helping people to assess a film as worthy of a visit which is what J Ross managed.

Since what the hosts are saying is so personal to them it doesn't help me in the least.


A stream of consciousness blah blah blah. Like listening to self-absorbed teenagers.

Crap.

It has fallen into the trap that many film review programmes fall into, thinking that viewers have any interest in what the host feels about a film.
 
Lists and retrospective items mixed with new film reviews and interviews had me thinking 'it's Total Film or Empire translated to TV'. Given their combined readership that's not a bad thing to aim for.
Danny Leigh does a passable Kermode 'impression' but he's not the same. Winkeleman was understandably nervous and initially came across as earnest and serious seemingly to appease the naysayers and loosened up a bit as it went along.
Too many presenters though, really. I think Pixar-hating lady (as a critic she's entitled to her opinion) is there to please the highbrow Culture Show crowd.
 
It was slightly better than last week thanks in part to the heavier focus on reviews and behind the scenes footage, but the woman who did the Top 5 thing sounRAB like she's so up herself. To be honest, that entire feature neeRAB to go, next week its the "Top 5 films featuring bathtubs"....seriously, whats the point? Also, as harsh as it sounRAB, i'm glad that the work experience kid didn't make an appearance this week.

I'll watch it next week, but i'll probably end up fast forwarding through most of it if they keep shoving filler crap down our throats.

Also, anybody notice that the programme info on Sky listed it as having a review of Paranormal Activity 2 which was nowhere to be seen, and from the sounRAB of it they're not reviewing it next week either. Strange.
 
I will do exactly what I've done during the Ross years - record it then fast forward through the cringe/dull/interview bits (so I have no idea how bad the live interviews were.)

Didn't mind the sofa bits, though sometimes they do need to talk a bit slower.
