Film 2010

Film 2010 is going to be live according to the trailers.

No idea what portion is going to be live, but I can't think why it neeRAB to be live or what that could possibly add to the program.

I think you may have missed the point of "live".

I'm as bad. I have it recorded on TiVo but haven't got around to watching it yet. I hope it's good. I wasn't a fan of Ross, and I've liked Claudia ever since she did that 24 thing. I don't watch her dancing programme because dancing. I think she could be good in this.

Oh dear :(

Alarm bells should have rung when I heard that it was a live show, being made in HD ... but then not actually being shown in HD until days later. How dumb is that !

Now I've been a big fan of Film 200x since it was Film 19xx. I was surprised and delighted by how well JR continued to uphold the heritage laid out for many years by Barry Norman.

It was my late night indulgence to listen to intelligent reviews of film, mixed with intelligent interviews with leading industry players (both from in front of and behind the camera).

And now we have this :(

I for one don't pay my TV Licence fee to hear teenagers inane and vacuous tweets read out. This show belongs on BBC3.

Coming here I find that I've been beaten to the punch in terms of the comments I was going to make about the multiple presenters (a la Gadget Show), top 5 (a la GS), machine gun -like superspeed "discussions" between two presenters on a red sofa (a la GS) ... I wonder where they got their ideas from

But seriously, this is a poor way to continue the "Film xxxx" franchise. It's such a different programme they should have just given it a different name (and, as I say, stick it on BBC3).

It fills me with dread to wonder what the young suits at the Beeb are going to do to "The Sky At Night" when Patrick finally hangs up his telescope.

I also had the same thoughts. There is no reason whatsoever to have it as a live broadcast.

I remember seeing a bit about it in a program months ago when CW was named as host and the producer or whoever was bigging up the new format and I still couldn't see what he was getting so excited about.

I thought that it didn't flow and the sections were really disjointed. It was an OK show, the interview with Carey and Andrey and Kiera was completely brilliant, one of the best interviews I have ever seen in ages.

I thought that were too many people and the film reviews were very basic, I could have said the same things just by watching the trailers of the films reviewed and the format of the show was predictable. Although, I did love the three secondary film reviewers and I would have rather watched them sitting around talking about films than watching tons of trailers and star interviews.

I probably won't watch anymore as I can get better film reviews by podcasts (Filmspotting is brilliant); there is not enough analysis and everything that Claudia and Danny said was too predictable.

Was there really much demand for this show to carry on? Viewing figures were low when Ross did it. Personally I just watch Kermode's Friday film review on BBC News. That keeps me reasonably filled in on all I need to know about the film world.

Oh I forgot the BFI London Film Festival starts today, maybe they're covering the red carpet of the opening event, interview with program director, etc.

Easier to edit that lot down then stitch it into a Live show possibly, then it can be a bit more fluid with the taped bits?

Oh dear, that was shocking. What's with all that Twitter nonsense? All that's missing is Gordon The Gopher and a band playing out each episode. Or is that for next year?

Im not sure why having it live helps at all,the film festival interview was total car crash telly, claudia was squinting at the autocue connected to a different camera all the time, and it didnt need to be done like that at all

so its sole live purpose it seems can only be to read out tweets during the show as thankfully there arent film festivals (oh and btw most the festival films you recommended were the show premieres which sold out weeks ago) every week (agh but what about premieres), so great, thanks for that bbc, we feel so interactive now

the debating aspect, well yes but Kermode and Mayo do it much better, as did Siskel & Ebert once so its not like a new concept and it kind of works better if you dont have the same opinions on the films but hey does debating whether a 4 or 5 year old might like a film at 23:15 at night really purport to be the height of film debate now, reminRAB of when Newsnight review reviewed Cats and Dogs for some reason and Germaine Greer was explaining how she just could bring herself to believe the acting performance of the talking cat.

ultimately all I as a film goer want from this kind of show is to know which films are out this week, which films am I likely to enjoy the most by paying to go see, and which films in the pipeline might be of some interest, perhaps with a bit of lets explain the film making process tacked on.

I dont want a lifestyle film show, I dont need a meme of top 5 films connected tenuously via some utterly random link, or multiple presenters (seriously why mention that Pixar thing its like Im so hip Im counter culture odd thing to say) or people like Simon Pegg telling us what films they like.

frankly I survived best part of a decade after Ross took it on without watching it, and my first impression is actually his show was still better than this for all its faults. so I think Ill happily continue to avoid it.

stono

It doesn't say live on the Sky EPG, and the HD broadcast won't be as, it's not on until Friday evening.

Digiguide has both the BBC1 and BBC HD broadcasts as live.

funnily enough the shows it reminded me most of were those "da yoof" shows the Beeb cranked out in the late 80's like Def II/Reportage, just needed some wobbly camera work to get the right vibe.

heck claudia even mimics the magenta devine sunglasses look with her makeup.

Didn't think it was too bad at all.
Agree that it doesn't really need to be live, just seems like an expensive way of distinguishing it from it's predecessor.
I think Winkleman is pretty good actually, if a tad on the orange side.
Decent first effort, should be alright after a bit of tweaking
