I see no reason that it wouldn't. If unheated and just added to a
recipe, or in any of a thousand pickled foods, it would have exactly
the same chemical structure and do exactly the same things inside your
body.

Be happy you weren't born into the Roman Empire. Vinegar was a common
beverage--having been doubly fermented it was free of dangerous microbes
and stayed that way a good long time without refrigeration, and unlike
wine, one doesn't get drunk from it.

There is no way I'm drinking vinegar, diluted, fermented or otherwise.

The thought alone makes my throat close.

I've done just fine for 58 years without it, other than in
conventional recipes and I'll do without it for much longer.

Depends on what the rest of your food intake looks like for the day.
You want to get some carbs, although it's best for most folks to keep
them moderate. If you're not having any other bread or sweets or the
like, then I think it's just fine to have a bun with your burger. Best
to make it as healthy a bread/bun as you can palate, of course - Whole
Foods has these _fantastic_ tasting, organic, potatoe bread buns.
They're organic enough that I find they really don't keep more than a
day or two here before they lose a lot of that wonderful flavor,
although a quick trip to the toaster oven does rejuvenate them somewhat.
