Female Toons Hardly Get Hurt

Vicky from Fairly Odd Parents has been injuried beyond the cartoon instant recover a couple. She has been hospitalised at least two times in the times. First of all the Re Do episode in which she was hit by a truck, and the Miss Dimmsdale episode in which she was beaten up by her fellow beauty contesdents, and the newspaper headline read (with a picture of Vicky in the hospital) "Girl Severly Beaten."

Um, what are you talking about? Minerva Mink rarely got hurt in any of her shorts. There were a lot of Tex Avery-style wild takes in the Minerva shorts, but there was very little violence directed against her.

In the JLU episode, For the Man Who Has Everything, Wonder Woman got beat up by Mongul pretty badly.
That was the highlight of the episode for me. Mainly because it rarely ever happens.

Hence this thread.

Yeah, that wasn't getting beat down, but it was pretty intense for a PG rated Pixar film, and to have it done by the hero and not the villain.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet: Katara and Toph from Avatar have both wound up on the wrong end of Firebending in that series, and gotten injured.

In the first season episode The Deserter, Aang tries to learn Firebending before he's ready and winds up burning Katara really severely. Sure it was an accident, and Katara did discover her ability to heal because of this, but it still happened.

In season 3's The Western Air Temple Toph has the soles of her feet burned by Zuko when she goes to talk to him, and he thinks its an attack. Not only are they severe enough that Toph can't walk, but she is also effectively 'blinded' since she "sees" with her feet.

Huntress took a few hits on Justice League Unlimited, but to me, Huntress falls in the category of "Characters so obnoxious that you want to see them get hurt".

At least she had a personality. Along with Hawkgirl. I don't get why characters like Black Canary were so popular. Don't get me wrong--I like looking at her design (the best in the show, IMO), but tough girls who don't have many strong opinions or sense of individuality tend to bore me as a viewer.

Sorry. But the use of the wrong person usage of the verb "to Be" on your count is just hillarious. It make my day.

I don't recall Slappy ever being on the reciving end of anything, however. She's more of the instigator.

More's the pity. Just kidding, ladies. ;)

That goes back to the 'action heroine' rule mentioned earlier; Sam, Clover and Alex are professional spies. They've supposedly had specialized training to defend themselves and getting hurt is part of their job description, so they can supposedly take it. Since danger is part of their daily lives, it's OK for them to occasionally take a hit, but you wouldn't want to see a 'civilian' female like a mom or a little girl get smacked around in the same manner. (Sure, the Powerpuff Girls are little girls, but they're also superheroes with awesome powers, so they can take a punch when one is delivered to them. If the Girls weren't Supers, you'd cringe whenever they got hurt.)

It is possible for a female character to be strong of will and opinionated without being a complete bee-yotch, like Huntress was. She was just rude to everyone around her for no reason. Shayera Hol at least had something of a sensitive human side. Whenever Huntress got into a scrape with a villain, I found myself rooting for the villain.
