Female Toons Hardly Get Hurt

Most Female cartoon characters who are main or supporting characters of action and superhero cartoons usually get hurt. Other times, its kind of rare, except in Happy Tree Friends (bloody and evil) and a few slapstick cartoons.

Now CATFIGHTS are common. Imagine if two girls are about to catfight and the whole thing turns to a spoof of a Mortal Kombat video game.
But to tell you the truth, I never actually seen a cartoon catfight, but I heard about how  they are.

Now who doesn't like a good chick fight. Even Rayray in life and Times of Juniper Lee had a line "Chick fight on the roof". There is a subtle rule that only girls can hit other girls. There are a few superhero exceptions but even there it's not often. There is an innate anger response at a male character hitting a girl because she is so much smaller. like when the poacher guy hit Jane with the gun butt in Tarzan. it's a little more emotion than most cartoons want to trigger. But June getting creamed by the monster in the wrestling match just for a smoothy was hilarious.

In The Incredibles, the filmmakers only allowed Elastigirl to hit that blonde chick who was doing harm to Mr. Incredible. I guess that applies here.

Unlike a lot of US animation, it's not uncommon for girls in anime to sustain physical injury by both male and female characters. There's an episode of Bleach, which Adult Swim isn't up to yet, where Orihime is in bandages supposedly from a fight. Dragon Ball Z had that notorious episode in the Buu Saga (?), where Videl gets beat up pretty badly by some overly-big dude.

Yeah, Videl got beat up by Spopovich I believe. That scene got heavily edited in the TV dub though.

Silverstar pretty much hit the nail on the head here. It is generally about violence against women that society sees as a disturbing thing. TV execs and most viewers would consider seeing women getting hurt brutally as something cringe-worthy and for that, things have to be adjusted as to make them unoffensive to the viewer. :(

Violence against or commited by women in TV (especially children's TV) is also a cause of needless controversy. A friend of mine's mother was appaled by the violence commited against Batgirl and Harley in TNBA (both shown falling several stories and bleeding, although technically Batgirl's wasn't "real") as well as Supergirl in STAS "Legacy." It offended her so badly that she didn't want my friend watching the shows. Luckily, said friend is 19 and can watch whatever the hell she wants, regardless of whether he Mommy approves. :-D

GAH!! If that isn't reverse sexist, I don't know what is. I mean, this isn't spousal abuse, these are supervillains and super heroes. they fight. There's violence.

This rule was employed on H-B's Pac Man cartoon. Whenever Pepper, aka Ms. Pac Man was involved with the adventure, it would always be her, rather than Packy himself, who chomped Sue. Packy would only chomp Sue when she was paired or teamed up with 1 or more of the male ghosts.

It goes back to what Silverstar said earlier; female characters are generally considered to be smaller and more delicate than males and so males cannot strike them for comic effect, they way that a female can strike a male for some petty, trivial reason. If a man ever hit a woman in a fit of petty anger, you wouldn't laugh at that. You'd think the guy was a hot headed creep. On One Piece, Nami can beat up on Luffy and the other Straw Hat pirates for comic effect and it be funny, but if Luffy ever beat up on Nami or Robin in the same manner, you would hate him instantly. The male Straw Hat pirates like Zoro and Sanji are strong enough to lift houses, so they can take it if a woman punches them on the arm or smacks them on the head.

there was this Bugs bunny catoon where ther was this annoying (somehow cute) red ridding hood

she was so annoying that bugs and the wolf team up and put her in a "hot" situation

Did Android 18 ever get injured or end up on the losing end of a fight on DBZ? From what i remember, she pretty much dominated every fight she was in, but i may be wrong.

Aside from getting swallowed by Cell, don't think so.

I think the mindset of girls actually getting injured being disturbing is what the issue is. Many shows feature a hero that suddenly is faced with a girl enemy or rival, and is like, "I can't hit a girl", or something to that effect. Even when the girl is obviously much stronger than he is, it's the fact that it's a female.

re: catfights

This is common and sometimes brutal because girl on girl violence is deemed more acceptable in our society.

To be honest, I do squirm more when I watch, in movies or TV, a woman being in a brutal fight vs a man as opposed to a woman. OTOH, I do think it can be creatively stifling, especially in the creation of some truly hardcore heroines.

You mean all one of them? She did beat Vegeta pretty badly (although to be fair, it's not like Vegeta wasn't trying to hurt her), and with Cell it wasn't even really a fight (she just got absorbed).

But Trunks did go back to his timeline and kill that version of Android 18 pretty violently.

And DBGT doesn't exist, but if it did she got knocked around pretty bad by Super 17.

Replies need to be in greater detail. Listing one character or just listing off characters and not going into detail, means it's a 'list' post, and we have a rule against list threads/posts here in General Animation.
