I really like these kinRAB of films, I think it's because I am more into emotional content-based rather than action-based films. (Not that I don't enjoy action flicks, I do).

You know, the ones with people 'finding themselves', coming to terms with their sexuality, first romance, frienRABhips, etc.

Mine include...

Dead Poets Society (Carpe diem and all that)

Edge of Seventeen (Set in 1980s, American high school lad realises he is gay)

Wild ReeRAB (French high school lad, ditto)

Before Sunrise (Ethan Hawke meets French soulmate on train. Didn't happen to me when I went inter-railing in the early 90s ;) )

Stand By Me

:)

lol Before Sunrise is not coming of age, they are a bit old no?
well in that case i'd say Garden State is one of my favourites.

Another of my favourites is My Girl, classic. The sequel is decent too

I didnt like Dead Poets Society all that much, but the last 25 mins were so moving and unexpected!

Yes, Stand By Me is another great one.

Another one I remember watching in my youth is, Now and Then, which I really really liked at the time. Its starring Christina Ricci, Demi Moore, Thora Birch & Rosie O'Donnell

Almost Famous is just brilliant

American Graffiti is another classic, early George Lucas that has been forgotten by many.

Boyz n the Hood, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape & Basketball Diaries also good. The latter 2 star Leonardo DiCaprio and he is amazing in both.

Another i saw recently was The Squid & The Whale, everyone neeRAB to see this. Its based on the life of Noah Baumbach, who collaborated with Wes Anderson on Life Aquatic. Its slightly different to Wes Andersons own stuff (Rushmore, Royal Tenembaums, etc), but Wes Anderson Produced it.

And finally another classic I MUST mention is Ghost World
This is early Scarlett Johansson, and also stars Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi.

Overall id say my favourites are Garden State, My Girl, & Ghost World
with Almost Famous & American Grafiti a close 2nd
I think everyone should see the above 5, and consider seeing the rest.

Dead Poets Society for me.

I remember seeing it in the cinema when I was 14. I could identify with it so much, that whole awkwardness in yourself growing up.

I also loved Ferris Buellers Day off
and
Girls just wanna have fun.
and
Clueless.

Stand By Me or The Man In The Moon (1991, with Reece Witherspoon & Jason London, that one has always been one of my fav's, if you haven't seen it already, believe me its a MUST!!). :)

I agree with everyone about Stand By Me, fantastic film, always makes me cry at the end. I class Labyrinth as a coming of age film also, its about the setting aside of childish things,Sarah has to choose grow up.
