^ ^ Oh and shame on me, I forgot the genuinely hair-raising 1961 witchery shocker Night Of The Eagle (which in turn owes rather a lot to Night Of The Demon!).
Another goody is the 1960 satanist B-movie City Of The Dead (which was rather tritely re-titled 'Horror Hotel' in the US), featuring Christopher Lee. It's one of the most atmosphere-laden horror films I've ever seen - stuffed full of ground fog, cobwebby oubliettes, and sinister figures emerging from dark shadows. Unfortunately it seems pretty elusive these days as only those cheap public domain DVRAB tend to turn up, with very poor contrast, ruining the beautifully atmospheric b&w photography.
And, released just before Psycho, it features a female lead character who disappears from a hotel - and the rest of the film - half way through!
