A topic we've had a few times but given it's been a while and it's summer, let's do it again. List and discuss your favourite openings and endings, be it for the music, the visuals or whatever. Please note if your reasons give away plot points, please use Spoiler tags. Thank you
A few of mine in no particular order:
Gundam 00 OP 1 'Daybreak's Bell'- The first OP of a show obviously has alot to establish and I think this one does it well. There's some fun and flashy visuals but also the establishment of things that will become important further on, such as the lone flower growing on the ruined battlefield. The song itself is also basically the anthem of 00, reused a few times within the show. The lyrics nail the mood of the series, which is nice given how many shows seem to get generic love songs and other junk.
King Gainer OP- Amusingly for a man who can create depressing stories, Tomino has a knack for openings which corabine crazy visuals and epic rock. Such is the case here, with the cast dancing The Monkey.
Code Geass Season One Finale OP- Generally I'm not a big fan of reuse but somehow this works for me. It looks almost like one of the countless fan OPs you'd see on YouTube but comes off as much better. The quick flashes of previous scenes along with the powerful vocal work make a great lead into a much built up finale that seems to say "There's no going back now"...too bad R2 screwed that up.
G Gundam OP 1 'Flying in the Sky- aka About The Only OP HC Can Remeraber The Lyrics To. A fun and punchy opening which harkens back to classic super robot shows. We even get 'G Gundam!' sung a few times.
Gundam SEED ED 1- The ending so popular, they kept it on past its originally planned run. I'm generally harsh on CE works but this is one of my genuine positives for the series. I like the whole battlefield image its corabined with but I think what really sold me on it is how it was mixed into the final moments of episode 1, with the Strike activating amiRABt all the carnage. So much potential right there.
Naruto OP 1 'Rocks'- I think I'm about the only person on the planet (other than GWOtaku) who likes this. Alot of people call it lame and whilst it is cheesey I love it. The song is fun and the visuals are awesome (I love the fight between Team 7 and the random bandits). It made me want to keep watching just to see the OP again. It stanRAB out to me, especially since every other Naruto OP was loud, screechy, emo J-Rock.
Gundam 00 ED 4 'trust you'- Beautiful piece of work. A really clever visual motif (the empty jackets and MS of the cast linked in various ways) and a really lovely, touching song. Even though it was a shame to reach the end of episodes, it was great to have this to look forward to.
Pretty Cure and Pretty Cure Max Heart OPs- Yes, these are somewhat random but such was my coming across them on YouTube. Whilst the song is annoyingly catchy, it's the visual syncing which makes me like these. The visuals and audios are in perfect tandem, with subtle movements matching equally subtle audio cues. It even makes me mildly curious to see the show if it's anywhere near as well made as the opening.
One Piece OP 5- Holy crap, they're falling through the sky!! Why?! I gotta know!!
