Favorite/Best Dumb Father?

I'm talking about the man-children with children who aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, and could be rather child-like in personality. Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, Son Goku, etc.

My pick is Goofy in the Max Era (1992-2004). One can argue that Homer and Peter may be funnier, and Son Goku can destroy planets (though a certain scene in A Goofy Movie showing the Goof in a bad mood may eclipse a Saiya-jin rage. Heck, I bet that expression can make Vejita pee his pants!). But I feel that Goofy towers above them is his love for Max. Homer and Peter can be jerks to their kids, and Goku prefers battles first over his family. But with Goofy, there is no doubt that Max is his no.1 priority & center of his world. It's an interesting paradox that the clumsy, accident-prone, disaster-waiting-to-happen Goofy didn't fail being Max's father.

Dexter's dad from Dexter's lab is probably my favorite. He was such a goober. I'll never forget the cupcake episode.

And while I find his VA annoying I think Richard Waterson from Gumball is pretty funny.

Goofy, yes, and Dexter's Dad! Also Geppetto from Disney's Pinocchio, Mr. Ping from Kung Fu Panda, Mr. Incredible (though he probably doesn't qualify as 'dumb' or 'silly'), Stu from Rugrats, Jake from Daria, and who could forget the Father Bear in those old cartoons with the big oaf son and the depressed Momma Bear?...

Yeah, I guess a lot of the best father characters are kinda crazy and dumb, but often funnier than their main character kids.

Definitely early Homer Simpson as a very recognizable although comically exaggerated middle American dad from maybe one generation older then the time he premiered.

And for all out funny stupidness, Billy's dad from the Grim Adventures Of Billy and Mandy.

Homer Simpson- THE best idiot father! Sure he can be a jerk and a universal punching bag, but he loves his family and does anything for them (just watch "Make Room For Lisa").

Goofy- He may just be the most embarrassing father ever! But he always tries to do good for his Maxie and he can do pretty awesome things the "goofy" way ("It's about staying focused...ON YOUR GOALS!!!").

Dexter's Dad- He's just outrageous. He can go crazy ("The Muffin King", "Dad Is Disturbed"), and do stuff wrong ("Tee Party", "Cable Manners") which makes him funny. Yet, you don't wanna piss him off ("The Old Switcharooms").

Peter Griffin- In earlier episodes, he cares for his family and does crazy stuff because he thinks he can help them. In later episodes, he just an ass and the laughs come from pain being inflicted on him.

Timmy's Dad- He's just an all-out idiot, yet he cares for Timmy. Plus, whatever he says can be hilarious ("Why can't I go to the nice clink?").

Just a friendly reminder, don't forget to explain your choices. List threads are frowned upon by the higher-ups here at TZ.

-Anyway, it's hard for me to say, since I don't find a lot of current animated dad characters funny. I guess if I had to pick one, I'd probably go with Richard Watterson from The Amazing World of Gumball. While I think the show's writers overdid the character's level of incompetence, Richard does try to do right by his family and he is amusing in small concentrated doses.

On that note, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Goofy.

Awesome thread for Father's Day, here's my top favorite/best dumb fathers:

Goofy(Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie/An Extremely Goofy Movie) - He's the best awesome goofball father ever which he may be embarrassing at times, but he loves his son Max no matter what, but in the movie, I felt bad for him when Max became a humongous jerk/terrible son all around:(.

Dexter's Dad(Dexter's Laboratory) - He's a really funny goofy father for his crazy antics and can be scary when he's angry, yikes!!!!!!Jeff Bennett did him justice.

Mr. Turner(The Fairly OddParents) - He may be a huge funny moron, but he loves his son Timmy, and his lines/crazy things are hilarious, hahahahaha:p:D.

Nigel Thornberry(The Wild Thornberries) - He was an awesome idiot father for his funny idiocy while loving his family and surviving Debbie's annoying jerkiness, but it's cool when he gets serious when danger approaches and I love his silly huge nose design.Tim Curry did him awesome.

Andrew/Erik(Home Movies) - They were pretty awesome silly goofball fathers whose bonding with their kids was great, but Andrew's fiancee Linda may be a jerk, but she's hot which he's lucky to score her!!!!!

Peter Griffin(Family Guy) - In the earlier episodes, he loves his family, but after cancellation, he became a terrible scumbag father for the family and the terrible things/random crazy stuff that he does is hilarious along with his well-deserved bashings, hahahahaha.Peter's speaking Italian/Mannequin movie/Road House kicking/vs. reflection/Red Bull scenes were my favorite hilarious moments of his, hahahahaha:p:D.

Killer Moth(Teen Titans) - My favorite awesome supervillain of Batman's who's a great funny/goofy father putting up with his annoying spoiled bratty daughter Kitten along with his best moments in the comics which was hilarious as well.

Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz(Phineas & Ferb) - For an evil scientist father, he's the best hilarious idiotic/embarrassing father who loves his cool/hot evil daughter Vanessa, hahahahaha. He's way better than his terrible father from his sad backstories.

Richard(The Amazing World of Gumball) - He's hilarious for being a major idiot for his silly crazy antics/level of incompetence, hahahaha, but does what's best for the family. The scene with him vs. the doors was hilarious, hahahahaha, the poor guy. It's interesting how he has a cruel/cunning/manipulative side when he tricked poor Gumball/Darwin in The Laziest.

Gale Glory(Rave Master) - He's pretty awesome for a goofy/funny father who loves his family and is one great fighter. His sacrifice death made me cry, R.I.P. Gale Glory, you'll be missed.

Isshin(Bleach) - He's hilarious for being a major moron for the family for his crazy antics, hahahahaha, and he's awesome when he's a calm/serious/hardcore Soul Reaper for his enormous spiritual power which surprised me which he's so a better loving father than the jerkfaces Ryuken/Mayuri the crappy fathers for poor Uryu/Nemu.

Hiro(Shin-chan) - He's pretty funny for a goofy father, but the poor guy putting up with his terrible/perverted son Shin on a daily basis makes him the #1 best father.

Oh derr. I'm a moron! Of Course Mr. Ping. He is my favorite. I love how he can be a lighthearted noodle-loving guy one second then a dedicated and loving father the next. And of course James Hong brings the goods with his performance.

I love Goofy. He may be famous for being clumsy and having buck teeth, but he is considerate and has a good heart for Max. That is what all parents should be like for their children.

My favorite "dumb" father character would have to be Dale Gribble, from King of the Hill.

Even though Joseph technically isn't his son, and he doesn't know this, he loves him.

I also think that Dale is the funniest character in the series, as I find that him and Bobby say most of the funniest lines.

Weeeell....

Homer Simpson
(The Simpsons) - He is hilarious, and almost always means well but screws up. He also was the creator of "D'oh" whicih I use on my everyday life.

Mr. Turner (Fairly OddParents) - Another hilarious dad who cares ofr his child but is over-the-top-ly dumb ("Opening the door with my mind didn't work!" and "I got lost on the hallway" come to mind).

Richard Watterson (Amazing World Of Gumball) - Fairly new, but so far hilarious. I love that not only he is dumb, but the world seems to be againt him (like on "The Painting").

Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Phineas & Ferb) - Hilarious man, who even though he is evil, loves his daughter and wants the best for her.

Hubert J. Fansworth(Futurama) - "Father" to Cubert, and he really cares for him. Plus his senile self and over the top attitude make him one of the best dads ever. (Good news everyone!)

I almost want to add Baloo from The Jungle Book; though he wasn't Mowgli's dad he did kinda adopt him as his 'cub' for a while.

Helps that he only has one child. Part of what makes his parents so bad to him is that they favor his more successful better looking brother over him.
