Favorite Bassists

anyone wondering who is the greatest bassist of all time should just listen to primus's "fish on" I'll describe it as a bass epic.

Like here for instance where you tried to compare Sting, whos down mountains of intellectual, highly crafted good songs with decent melodies, to Micheal Anthony, talentless bitch bassist for one of the biggest **** rock banRAB of all time whose orders mainly consisted of "keep it simple so i can solo my ****ing balls off....got it?"
 
Yeah well Sting plays Bass and sings and piano and write all the damn music and has massivly, MASSIVELY, complex ideas going on in his song. The time sig shifts in "Big Lie" alluding to the fact he thinks religeon is bull**** is amazing. And he did that just with time signatures.

Boo Boo, I find you to be competent and to always have something informed and interesting to add or say, but to review sting the way you did clearly illustrates a lack of knowledge on his work. First of all, the bass work in Roxanne alone (a song I mention based on its urabiquity) should launch him into the ****ing stratosphere.

We are all entitled to our mistakes I suppose.
 
I think you have songwriting confused with actual bass playing, **** yeah hes a great songwriter. As an actual bass player, he is nothing special, any experienced bass player will tell you that. He mostly plays blues roots scales, which for the most part, is kiRAB stuff, so in that regard, he isnt any different from Anthony since he plays basic blues scales too. They might belong to completely different genres, but their technical ability is about the same. We are not comparing apples and oranges here, its just oranges and oranges.
 
Because the bassline is vital for any song. The bass playing underpins the harmony and rhythm. Mostly its something that you don't even notice - great bass playing can be overlooked but if its not there then the song won't sound anywhere near as good. At the same time, bad bass playing (like bad rhythm guitar playing) can ruin a song without you even realising.

I guess so, i have heard some of his Police stuff, Roxanne is a great song, i love the bass on there myself, i wasn't saying he wasn't a very good bass player, he most certainly is, hes just not what you would call a extreamly technicaly skilled bassist, at least not like Billy Sheenan is, though i really dont care for sheenan, hes damn good and all and is one of the few bassists i have heard who can do crazy shread solos on bass, though i never see the purpose of doing crazy shred solos on bass guitar.
