Family Guy - "Road to the Multiverse" - Talkback [9/27]

I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked it quite a bit, but at the same time didn't. They just meshed up a lot of humor they've made in the past (atheism, Disney anti-jew, pedophile, Meg sucks (part of me wants them to brutally kill her off), Political, robot chicken bashing, etc.), and I feel kinda betrayed. I haven't really had problems with Family Guy until last season (Go ahead, shoot me.....you know you want to). The "Road to" episodes are always good, but I had the rehash vibe feeling about it before they went to the dog-verse. It pissed me off really. If I were writing for Family Guy, I wouldn't do it Seth's way, as it always seems to be. This almost makes me want to shoot him, but I wouldn't because I respect his earlier work too much.
 
The Disney universe was definitely the highlight of the episode, even with the overplayed and untrue "Walt Disney hated Jews" joke. The animation was just so... awesome. The characters models were spot on and the song was great too. Loved it.

The rest of the episode was pretty good too. I went into it not knowing anything about it and I was pleasantly surprised.
 
Best episode in quite a while.

I mean, the whole "jumping through alternate universes" concept is far from new, but the execution was amazing, especially seeing all of the contrasting animation styles they used.

The Disney AU segment is probably one of, if not the best thing Family Guy has ever done, even if it was sullied a bit by the ending (the "Walt Disney hates Jews" joke isn't funny and never has been, however I admit I chuckled a bit at the ending shot with Mort because that's something you don't normally see in this style of animation).

I'm surprised Seth didn't take this opportunity to take a quick jab at South Park because this would have been the perfect episode to do so. It didn't have to be anything long or serious, just a quick joke like the Robot Chicken AU.
 
...Stuck in dog world..Plus I was Hoping for a Joke about the ClAMP multiverse,,,but i guess Anime still isn't big enough to seth to parody yet...(Darn it!)
 
Well, and that's the trouble. Being called something like an anti-Semite is pretty awful. Perpetuating it, even for a laugh, is pretty despicable in my book. And it struck a very sour note in that segment. Too bad Seth couldn't think up something that was actually funny, instead of off-putting. Well, as I said, Seth is Seth...
 
Umm what?

You want to kill Seth MacFarlane because you have mixed emotions about tonight's episode? You're betrayed? Betrayed how? And how can you get a rehash vibe from the first 2/3rds of this episode when so much of it was so incredibly unique? You lost me.

And let's not get uptight over the Robot Chicken jokes. The two Seths are obviously on good terms considering they both participate in each other's shows. The Robot Chicken jokes are just good natured ribbing. Nothing more.

And for some reason it tickles me when people get so upset over political and religious jokes on this show. People need to relax just a little, honestly. It;s an adult show which, like I said before, begins with a disclaimer. You need to prepare to be offended with a show like this.



Yet another Family Guy thread brought down because some members can't maturely and rationally deal with this show's brand of humor.
 
I'd prefer it if Family Guy's writers actually made an effort to improve on Meg's character than kill her off, but I don't see that happening either.

Anyway, despite my earlier decision to skip the new FG eps altogether, I decided to watch this one because I was curious about what different universes Stewie and Brian would visit. Disney universe and Robot Chicken were my favorites.

Stewie: How does it feel to be on a major network for 20 seconds?
Chris: (expletive) YOU!

Sadly, I turned away for a moment and missed Sexy Meg. I'll have to catch that on Adult Swim.

I still don't think that I'll be watching the rest of the new season, though, as FG really isn't doing much for me anymore.
 
Obviously the Disney-verse was the highlight of the entire FOX sunday night. I have a feeling it will be talked about for a while.

As for the Family Guy arguement as a whole: You have to realize this show will always be offensive, and its kind of stupid bash this and not Southpark as well. (Who does it 3x worse.) The way I watch, is that I go in knowing that there will be offensive jokes, but in the end you're not suppose to care, so I don't care, so I laugh. If you go in knowing that its offensive and get offended, who's fault is that? Seth? No. Seth is just pushing the bouderies that people consider offensive, a feat that "comedians" have done and will do for years. If you get offended, don't watch.
