Family Guy - "Halloween on Spooner Street" - Talkback [11/7]

Am I the only one who knew Optimus Prime was Chris the moment I saw how portly he was? It was kind of obvious.

Am I also the only one completely sick of all these unfunny racist jokes? I thought they would have stopped by now, like they got tired of Stewie gay jokes (apparently). But no, every episode, there's something about how Asians can't drive or...why is this funny? IT'S NOT FUNNY.

This Halloween special was a long time coming, and it was worth the wait. All the specials were good, but The Simpsons and Family Guy both knocked it out of the park.

I laughed so hard at Meg and Chris playing Sevin Minutes in Heaven I felt all my blood rush to my face. Quagmire's prank and the effort he made to make it work was genius. :D

Not funny to you, perhaps. ;)

To Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and the other Asian members of the FG staff, I'm sure this is a case of laughing at themselves.

Exactly. Between Cyndi Tang and Cherry I'm sure there's no real racism at the heart of these Asian jokes. That's like claiming the staff is a bunch of Klan members because Chris showed up in blackface.

Martaininvader, if you hate the show to the extent where you're ragging on episodes everyone else on the board seem to love why are you still watching it? It's just obviously not the show for you if the gender, racial, political and religious humor that the show thrives on nowadays isn't your cup of tea. You've said you haven't liked it since the second episode of season 4. That was in 2005. Why are you torturing yourself?

Not picking sides here, but that's like saying Stepin Fetchit isn't racist just because he was black, or that Long Duk Dong from Sixteen Candles wasn't offensive because they had an Asian actor play him. Just because your making fun of your own race or gender doesn't automatically absolve you of being considered offensive. Again, I'm not saying I was offended or anything, just pointing out that that's kind of faulty logic.

As for the episode, it was all right. The Griffincest scene was funny.

I thought it was funny....My favorite parts were...

Stewie being freaked out by the trick-or-treaters,thinking they were actual monsters and shooting at them...

The cutaway about Brian thinking his reflection on the patio was another dog (and of course,Peter also mistakes his reflection for another guy :D)...

The cutaway about Peter being lost at the grocery store (no matter how many times I see it,it's always funny to see a grown man act like a child)...

Peter not knowing what a kamikaze pilot is,and expecting to be able to meet Quagmire's grandfather ...

Meg and Chris accidently playing 7 minutes in Heaven together...Gross and wrong..but funny...

Lois getting back Stewie's candy...and then some (you do not want to get on the bad side of this woman)...

Quagmire's revenge against Joe and Peter for having him sleep with Joe (pretending he was going to crash an old Japanese plane into Quahog Harbor...of course,he's also not really part Japanese at all)....

Originally watching the episode, I was like 'they just went there?' and 'they just went THERE?' Oh, and... no way THEY JUST WENT THERE! Looking back in retrospect, it was actually funnier than I remember.

Stewie thinking trick-or-treaters were monsters and trying to kill them; Chris and Meg ending up making out with each other; Joe's rogue practical joke of sleeping with Quagmire; Quagmire's sweet Pearl Harbor-esque revenge; Lois getting payback for those bullies stealing Stewie's candy. So many good bits.

Wasn't my vote originally (it was for Simpsons), but Family Guy is now my vote for best of the Halloween episodes of the night.

I'm not a fan of them either. Mostly because, as you said, they're unfunny, and it feels like every time they have an Asian, black, Jewish, whatever character show up, their humor HAS to come from some stereotype. It's predictable and lazy.

That said, I don't expect them to stop. I mean, it's Family Guy, they use shock humor all the time.

Pretty funny episode, I really liked Stewie's reaction to the kids in Halloween costumes. Lois going crazy at the end was great as was the pranks Peter and his friends were pulling on one another. Meg and Chris making out was gross yet funny at the same time. Over all, one of the better Family Guy episodes, this season so far has been great.

Awesome episode. I can't believe it took this long to get a Halloween Family Guy special. Brian getting sprayed pink was funny especially what the Pink Panther said to him. Lois stealing back Stewie's candy was hilarious. Quagmire really got Joe and Peter back. Meg and Chris ending up together was disgusting.
