Family Guy - "Family Gay" - Talkback [3/8]

Wow... the stuff with Stewie is just so... so funny... and so... poignant... and it really fits his character... and isn't at all ridiculous.

yeah...

This episode is brutal. And the premise of it could actually be funny...

I thought act one in "Ocean's Three and a Half" was a step back in the right direction with some rapid fire/unexpected jokes, but it dropped the ball in acts two and three. And this episode wasn't exactly back to high form, either. There were a few laughs in it, but yeah, the "magic" of the show seems to be lost, or at the very most, comes back in spurts (whether it be for a few inspired jokes or even a full episode every once in a while, such as "Stewie Loves Lois") and then vanishes again.

Interestingly, Richard Appel wrote this one, and he was responsible for some of the best episodes of The Simpsons from seasons 7-9, including the excellent "Mother Simpson". What a step down. Though like always, it's hard to know who to blame; Appel himself for a bad day, or the writer's room that changes something potentially good into mediocrity.

Hey, speaking of the bath tub gag, and I know I've mentioned this before, but why the last two times has Cleveland not said "What the hell?!" when his wall is demolished? That's arguably the funniest part of the joke, simply for Mike Henry's delivery of it.

I'm not a fan of FG repeating jokes, but if they're going to do it, at least put the funniest part in there.

The brain damaged horse was the best thing in this episode. Most of the other jokes were way too predictable and cliche, and the cutaways were just uninspired.

I hope we get less Peter-centered episodes soon, I honestly am starting to lose my interest in his antics.

I don't know, they've been doing more and more episodes that aren't Peter-centered lately and I've found that there's just not much there. Peter isn't the problem. It is his show, after all.

Actually...this joke is true. I know someone who suffered through this type of sick joke and can't get a real life because of their need to impress their parents by being a doctor. I was laughing painfully, funny for being sadly true.

Didn't it seem that when the Simpsons did a bit about a horse for the 2nd time, it was dubbed the "worst episode ever" and all the other eps after that failed? FG did a bit with the talking horse, as Gilbert Gottfried, in the Texas ep, and then did this one with a racing horse and jocky jokes. Hmm...Makes ya think...

I have no real likeing for this ep. other then the horse was funny. This is like the ep where Peter becomes a pirate; where once the show's actual plot sets in, you become very dissapointed. I wanted to see more about the horse, like I wanted to see an whole episode where Peter was a Pirate, and then it turned out to be about Chris needing a girlfriend.

Meh. I don't think Peter (or Lois, for that matter) are good enough characters to use in a plot like this, especially when it's about something Seth has repeatedly stated he feels strongly about. I actually thought the "Jasper" episode worked better. This one did have a few funny moments; this may be just be me, but I thought Stewie's anti-gay jokes and Brian's obvious confusion was hilarious.

Stewie: I'm not all in you face with my heterosexuality.
Brian: No... no you are not.
