Family Guy - "Family Gay" - Talkback [3/8]

The "Cancelled Fox Shows" gag in North By North Quahog at least had some kind of a point and was funny. This one just drags on and on without anything resembling timing, a punchline, or humor.

Hilarious episode,

Highlights:
Peter doing Dragon's Lair,it's such a cool game.
The brain damaged horse,the way it looks & the creepy things it does is so hilarious,had me on the floor laughing,hahahahaha:p:D:D.
Peter being Matt Damon's neck,so creepy/hilarious.
Stewie slowly taking a sip from that horse stuff.
The brain damaged horse in the way of Peter/Lois driving.
The Cleveland bathtub gag,along with the creepy brain damaged horse,hahahahaha.
Uh-oh,it's Herbert,RUN FOR YOUR LIVES,just kidding,he's pretty funny though.
The creepy horse causing trouble during the horse race,hahahahaha.
Peter dropping off the dead creepy horse at Mort's place,hahahaha:D:p.
Peter being a squirrel.
Peter being Seth Rogan,they are kind of alike.
Chris bashing Meg with the fart like Peter.
Chris bashing poor Lois,hilarious for a son to be a wife-beater,hahahahaha.
Stewie being a gaybasher/homophobe,go Stewie,hehehe.
The Straight Camp.
The pig & the guinea pigs.
Mort dropping off the dead creepy horse,hahahahaha.

From that episode,I love that brain damaged horse plot,it's so hilarious:p,I wish they would of done it longer though,oh well.
Poor Seth Rogan would of had more lines though.

I have to ask....I saw the 157th Ethnic Stereotype Gag this evening ("We're a more closely knit family than Asians!"), and wondered to myself, who are these for? If they're for shock humor, they lost their shock when they kept putting them in. If they actually mean it....well, no, they can't, because half the Family Guy staff is Asian. And yet the only kind of person who would laugh at those is somebody who believes they're true. I'm sorry, I just think you have to be screwed up to find this stuff funny.

Oh yeah, and the line about Jesus hating people isn't right, but you knew that. At least I hope you knew that.

Yeah. I have to agree. It bothers me when they make fun of Christianity like that.

I think the problem with this episode was everything was sort of re-used. After all, they previously had an episode about Peter getting in touch with his feminine side. An episode about him being completely gay was unnecessary. Plus, the cancelled FOX show joke was used in an earlier ep as well. The Cleveland bathtub gag does get kind of old as well. About Stewie, well I think the possibility of him being homosexual is sort of something he tries to keep from people. He hasn't really 'come out of the closet.' Peter did seem to be more caring towards Meg though. I don't think he would have said 'That's right, sweetie' to her a few years ago. Again, I still believe he toned down the Meg bashing since the 'Peter's Daughter' ep. It was disappointed to see Herbert come back. But I have wondered whether or not he was gone for good. Someone at my job has mentioned that they were going to have an ep where he becomes a professional wrestler or something like that. I guess we'll have to see how often we see him. Hopefully, not that often.

I pray someone has this episode on their computer so they can make some avvys. There are so many visuals on this ep. that would make hilarious ones...that horse running for one, the horse sucking Stewie's head, the horse licking Peter....well, maybe not that one.

Alright, maybe it's just me, but that horse sucking a suger cube off of Stewie's head? PROBABLY one of the funniest things I've ever seen on Family Guy.

I couldn't tell you why. But, honestly, I'm still laughing now. :p

The funny parts were:
* Peter spoofing Dragon's Lair.
* The Lifetime Network raped by a clown movie.
* Peter on Matt Damon's neck.
* Peter imitating a squirrel.
* Peter imitating Seth Rogan.
* James Bond attempting to make love with a woman by saying in a "NO" or "YES" battle.
* The horse urinating on the Griffin's house floor.
* The Griffins crashing into Cleveland's house and making Cleveland fall onto the ground for another time while in the bathtub.

Speaking of Peter spoofing Dragon's Lair, did you know someone on the web attempted to do a PC game of a mix of Family Guy and Dragon's Lair combined called "Chicken's Lair"?

I thought it was the best episode they've done in a while...except for the fact that every single gay person in the episode was an overblown stereotype of a flaming queen.

Would it have killed them to have some sort of variety?

Seth Rogen's role in this episode kinda disappointed me.

GUILTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

The simple idea that some homophobes are just people unsure with their sexuality, that they may be gay themselves and don't want to admit it and it comes out as homophobic. it's actually quite in character I thought.

It's getting easier and easier to believe that this show is written by manatees. Not because of precisely what South Park identified as "manatee jokes", because random '80s nostalgia-based cutaways are far from its biggest problem, but the episodes just don't seem to have any form or purpose whatsoever. They're not even throwing Seth MacFarlane's crap at a wall and seeing what sticks; they're just throwing Seth MacFarlane's crap at a wall and filming it. And if not for the fact that he still voices tons of characters, I would have guessed that he's not paying attention to the show at all. Because he is clearly a brilliant comedy writer, but this is no longer a brilliant show.

They still have some sense of how to make things funny... or at least have the appearance of being funny. I can understand why people still laugh at this stuff. But it's lost its effect on me for the most part. It's the same bag of tricks over and over; nothing shocks or surprises me anymore.

I know I always say this, but American Dad... seriously, it's just miles better than this show is right now. I don't know if Seth is involved with it or if it just has better writers, but it's currently the ideal example of his style of comedy. It's just so much more thoughtfully crafted. Even though Family Guy's style is more random and loose, it still requires thought and effort that just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

After this season, I'm probably going to put this show on the same level as The Simpsons in terms of what I expect from it. Heck, I'm pretty much there now. Even though it hasn't even been on half as long, they seem to be out of ideas. I guess that just goes to show how great The Simpsons really was.

And with the gay gene, Peter sounds like Roger more and more.

...Well, he did for a moment.

Terrible joke after terrible joke. Ugh.

sirLemming each week it becomes easier for me to believe that Seth can only do one good show at a time. As long as American Dad is at the top of it's game Family Guy suffers. That makes me worry about the Cleaveland show. Will it effect American Dad?

Interestingly, I was reading the list of Family Guy episodes at Wikipedia. That page lsits writers, I guess credited, anyway, and I only saw Seth MacFarlan listed for a few episodes. I am not sure if that page only lists main writers (as each epsidoe appears to have only one or two writers lissted), but it would be surprising if Seth didn't write more episode. And I'd be surprised if every epsiode had only one or twow riters (I mean, I would expect many different writers to contribute to the cut-aways). I don't know if this is better to talk about in a seperate thread or not.
