Falling out of Anime

Well, a little.

I've begun to get more involved into writing and drawing. Having so many ideas to write down and commit to paper is fun, interesting, and a bit of a challenge when you're trying to possibly get into the animation industry like so many others.

I think this can also be attributed to how some or most anime are the same. When was the last time have we seen or heard of an anime based on a card battle game? Or a how a wimpy teenage boy is surrounded by hot women and hijinks ensue? (Don't get me wrong, I like that.)

I think that I would like to see something that shakes the foundation of a show or genre, like "Yu-Gi-Oh" meets "Dance Dance Revolution" type of show in which somehow the fate of the world rests on one person's shoulders (or feet), and would have to compete in some off-the-wall competitons with rivals along the way; or a convention-breaking character that makes me sit up, take notice, and wants me to join them and their adventure for 26+ episodes.

Also, money and resources are factors. I know that there are many options to choose from, but sometimes those avenues are limited. I don't have VOD, no iPod on the go, no digital cable for those specialty animation channels, and the internet can be sketchy at times. I rely on brick and mortar stores. On a final note, I'll wait for the complete set of a show that really piques my interest. I can't really watch five episodes for X amount of dollars and wait for the next volume.

I'm a marathon man, and trying to space the viewing time is difficult when things begin to get good. That may take some practice.

But at the end of it all, a break is best.
It's best to come back fresh than burned.

Maybe for the moment, you could focus on your writing and drawing, if that's what you like to do most. Many times I've gone weeks watching anime day by day and possibly 20 episodes a day, and other times I do the same with music or whatever else I'm into doing at the time.

I think an interest will always have a up time and a down time.

BTW could you name a few anime that you've watched? And name a few you particularly like, so it's easy to know what you're looking for.

Do you have a video rental store close by? That can be a way to find anime, I've seen them in most of rental places, and also not sure if your libaries would have it, but ours have anime there and they're free to borrow.

Yes, I do have a rental store nearby, but haven't seen any titles in there as of late. I have to drive at least 30 minutes to a Best Buy to get a full range of titles. The Wal-Mart in my area has a few, but not much.

I do watch [adult swim] late nights, and my personal collection has these titles:

-Excel Saga
-Girls Bravo
-Sorcerer Hunters
-Elfen Lied
-Tenchi Muyo: GXP
-Desert Punk

It's a collection of comedy, fanservice, action, and something rather dark.

I didn't mean it like that, Toonami got me into anime too!!

For the love of God, read my signature, you'll see how much I cared about
Toonami, I meant I just got tired of seeing the same stuff over and over again!!

What, someone can't not like Toonami without being branded a heretic?

I hadn't liked a show on the lineup since Gundam Wing, I guess I'm a classless pleb who doesn't like good animu. *eyeroll*

I kind of hit a point where it's like, "I'm following enough series right now, I don't feel like taking on more." I still follow the ones I'm following but that's about enough for me at the moment.

Thing is though that I'm only following like three or four series right now.

Do we really need this to be the millionth 'Not everyone worships Toonami' thread? This is supposed to be focussed on a personal question from an individual.

I suggest that you take a break from anime for let's say 1-3 months or more. In the mean time catch up on manga, books, videogames, movies etc. Then when 1-3 months or more have passed, try watching anime again. If you still can't get into it, it could mean that you've grown out of your interest in anime, which would not be the end of the world.

Or, wait till you find a series you REALLY enjoy, forcing yourself to watch a series just to say "I LIKE ANIME NOW" is not a good idea, finding a genre of anime is also a good idea, from action to comedy or vise versa.

I've already given my opinion, that a cooling off period is often a good idea. It's actually advice I'm planning to follow- once Gundam 00 is over, I'm planning to take a bit of a rest from that specific interest. Sure there's the 30th anniversary stuff coming straight after, but the sheer focus I've been putting in for the last year or so really leaves me wanting to take a break and explore other things, both new and existing.

I learned to control my obsession, In my opinion, it would be unhealthy if I didn't keep it in check, at least that's what my parents taught me, since they have no problem with it

Otherwise, I'd be like everyone else and let it run my life, if you get to that point, then that's when you need to take a break!!

Same here, me and my brother wont buy an anime unless its a complete boxset. Screw being at the mercy of the "next volume comes out in three months" crap.

Its funny, I cant remeraber ever being burned out from watching anime, i've actually experienced the opposite. Me and my brother would always take our sweet time to watch an anime. I rememebr taking like 6 months to finish Magical Rayearth (which killed the series for us and forced us to find reasons to watch the obligatory 2nd season). Obviously we learned that taking three weeks to watch one episode is really bad idea lol. But yeah I never watch more then one series at a time, and we always take at least two weeks (at the least) off before watching another. Its kinda werid though, I remeraber when my niece came to visit and us watching about three whole series for the week, when she left, i was a little worn out from all the anime watching. Funny how this doesnt come into play when watching anime on tv.

And, I thought I thought I was the only Magic Knight Rayearth fan!!
Too bad, I always watch anime by myself, and no one to enjoy it with, and I'm starting not to buy singles anymore, just waiting for boxsets!!
