Although I do most all my own work, I prefer not to play with the forks. What would you guys consider a fair price to change fork oil and are there any better recomendations other than HD fork oil. Thanks

If you have a roadking like in in you pic, it is about the simplest self maint job you can do. I just did mine and it is not difficult at all. I use the harley fork oil but belray is highly thought of.

That entirely depends on the level of competency and skill the person who is doing it has. You can range from either wasting the price of the fork oil to having a properly done job found at a race bike suspension shop. Both will cost the same but the actual results vary greatly.

Its about three hours labor. $175-$200.

If you do it yourself you may want to go with a good fluid:

guessing it cost me about 20 bucks for the fluid(piec o cake).A buddy of mine wouldnt believe me on how easy it was,the dealer told him even if we took the forks apart during a fork swap you still needed to use this speical mechine to pump it in currectly and they should change that spacer between forks and tubes...I told him that was a bunch of bs imo.

I'm in the wrong business if a dealer gets 3 hours for a fork oil change. A Road King change without air is about an hour at my house. If it has air, it is about 15 minutes.

As far as oil goes, I recommend heavier oil than stock. I use SE Heavy...The reason I recommend it is because on a Touring model, if you hit the brakes and a bump or dip at just the right timing combo, you can bang the brake T bolt on the front fender leaving a nice ding. It took me about 40k miles to do it, but I finally did. A little questioning taught me that this is a not so uncommon occurence. Heavier fork oil helps to lessen the likelyhood of it happening.
