Fable II's Chicken kicker!!?

Fable II's Retarted Chicken kicker!!! I don't understand I see the little Meter and I swear to god its random, if I hit the meter at the highest the chickens right in front of me, if I do it to low I kick it 1 foot, HOW DO I MAKE IT TO THE POT? Only on certain times I make it!!!
