ExpressVu Receivers and HDMI

Why is Bell supplying a DVI/HDMI cable when it is a HDMI out? My plasma is HDMI, I am gettig the AIO/9200 so do I have to buy a HDMI cable? My present * Choice HD receiver is DVI out, and I have a great cable from Monoprice which is DVI to HDMI. Does the 9200 also have a DVI out? Seems werid to have supplied this cable if it dos not have booth ? Am I missing something here?

I am considering subscribing to ExpressVu to go with my Panasonic PT-50LC14 50" LCD Projection HDTV. The TV has an HDMI input and I am considering purchase of either a Denon AVR-3806 or AVR-4306 a/v receiver with HDMI inuputs and outputs. I am aware that many users have problems with HDMI compatability between equipment, mostly related to HDCP issues. Does anyone have experience using Bell's 6120 or 9220 systems with HDMI? I realize that the 6120 would require an expensive DVI to HDMI cable. Also, any rumors concerning future ExpressVu systems and support of HDMI?
 
I just rented a 9220 PVR last week and it had a glitch! Apparently it has an intermittent software issue with HDMI that turns TV1 (HDTV) picture black (no sound either). It often will work again after going thru a lengthy Bell tech reboot protocol. They say they are working to fix the issue and it will will be resolved with a future software download.

I am also suspicious that the actual cable is faulty. Will call Bell again after Xmas and have them replace PVR and see if next one works better. Right now I am using the component video cable to my TV.
 
See the Digital Home FAQ "DVI/HDMI Information" (Under Help). You can buy such a cable typically for $10-20. Monoprice has been praised by many on this board.
 
There have be some problems with certain televisions and the HDMI interface. You would be wise to post your exact Television make and model in case anyone else has the same combo.

But Why? If it is HDMI out, why not include an HDMI to HDMI with a DVI adapter?, I do not like adapters, feel they do not work well, another possible problem to reduce the signal quality. I guess it is off to Monoprice again.....
 
I and others have experienced issues with HDCP. Since the new software update, my 9200 works fine now.
 
The 9200 includes a HDMI-DVI cable. No expense at all. Some older DVI sets have problems because they have a DVI 1.0 interface. Most newer sets should be OK. The 9200 works well with component as well as HDMI. Denon receivers switch component as well as HDMI.
 
I recently hooked up my 9200 via HDMI to my new Samsung 1080p DLP HL-S5087W. At first it worked fine then as I selected a recorded program on the PVR and pressed the Select button to start playing it the picture disappeared. It reappeared after I "waggled" the HDMI cable in the 9200 input. This happened several more times until eventually it stopped working altogether. Each time the picture disappeared it coincided with pressing a button on the 9200 remote. On the one hand this suggested a SW problem yet, on the other hand, waggling the cable to fix it suggested a HW problem. I have eliminated the cable and the TV because they both work fine with other HDMI sources (e.g. Sony PS3). The 9200 works fine over component.

BEV suggested swapping my receiver (they charge around $150 for this outside warranty) but this is not necessary if the problem is not HW related. bmsvl's post seems to lend weight to the software problem diagnosis. Can anyone else shed any light on this?
 
I'm running DVI from my 6100 to my TV. Never used HDMI because my TV does not have one.
 
Are there any rumors of BEV eventually offering hardware with HDMI outputs? How often does Bell typically introduce new hardware?
 
Possibly, but remeber that you are working with a digital signal here. It's either there or it's not. Much less suseptable to interference of any kind.
 
It sounds like the HDMI port on the 9200. You could try cleaning it out with some compressed air in case there is dirt in it. You could also try another cable since it could be a cable/connector incompatibility. IMHO, HDMI connectors are poorly designed. The trend is to make digital connections smaller but it also makes them prone to physical damage.
 
Does the 6120 support DVI? If so, has anybody had luck with HDMI over a DVI to HDMI cable from the 6120 to a, HDCP compliant A/V receiver?
 
I did try another HDMI cable. I also tried resetting the receiver - both to no avail. I will try blowing out the socket with compressed air but won't have an opportunity to do so till next week. Thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone else have any knowledge of the SW problem cited by bmsvl?
