ExpressVu 9242 HD PVR Discussion thread for Owners Only!

When I watch SD channels on my HDTV, I choose NORMAL,which supposedly provides a 4:3 image on my 16:9 screen (black bars on the side). When I watch the identical channel (553 Treehouse, I have a 16 month old) on the coax feed of my std. def. tvs, the channel still has black bars and I have to use the '*' button to stretch the image to fit the screen, which stretched the SD imageto full screen on my HDTV.

I'm not sure why there should be a difficulty sending the SD image out on the coax feed
 
Not sure what you mean, are you talking about the History log for scheduled events? I'm sure there is a rollover at some point. I wouldn't worry about it causing a problem.

I think the Jump to Live bug is when you are watching a show in "chase mode" (i.e. you paused a live show, then start it again delayed from the original airing) and it jumps forward to the live feed, requiring you to rewind back to where you were. I can't say I've ever seen that bug on the 9242, but then I didn't see it much on the 9200 either.

The audio dropouts are a problem again. They're happening routinely on the major networks.

theoretically, you could put an antenna on the TV2 coax output and another antenna at the recieve TV. Its power output level is very low, but it just might be enough to go thru a couple walls. It would be an interesting experiment.
Putting it into a low power transmitter would certainly do it, but transmitting requires a license. That means its illegal to broadcast in the TV band.

peterhefer1, It's good to know I'm not alone. Well, maybe "good" is not the right characterization. A number of recordings lately, both SD and HD have simply stopped about half way through, even though the information indicates the full length of the program.

It is usually the same shows, though a large number of them, including "American Idol", "American Gladiators", "The Biggest Loser", and probably most frustratingly, "Terminator".

So essentially, I have an HD PVR that needs to be baby sat, or I have to record every show twice, and just hope that one of the two makes it to the end. Unfortunately, in my case, the time-shifted recordings often stop too.

I haven't made the call for support yet, but when I get to it, I'll let you know what they have to say.
 
Yep, it's the History Log I meant -- no delete or clear button to select. After we tried the PVR a few times briefley and found this list even after deleting the short test PVR sessions, my "other half" noted it was a bit exessive. Over all, the 9242 is getting rather impressive SAF (spousal acceptance factor).
 
I've been running a 9242 for about 6 weeks now. I have noticed the audio dropping out for a fraction of a second quite regularly. Sometimes it is every few minutes and other times not at all.

I agree it is the hardware. If I rewind an audio skip it will play the second time.

I am using the optical output to my AVR.

Other that the audio issue I am happy with the 9242. Channels changes are fast for me.
 
Nimiq1 are u telling me my new 9242 is a re-furb??? I know that Bell uses Echostar stuff, are they all not new??
 
Lets look at he positive, at least they fixed my lip sync problem. I will be calling this evening to get a credit on my rental for the next month.
 
I've had my 9242 since Christmas and its been working flawless ever since. I am using HDMi to my new Sony TV and its been just plain flawless as far as audio is concerned.

I am totally satisfied with the features and performance of this unit. I hate Bell as much as the next guy but I guess I got lucky with this unit.
 
Has anyone had any issues with their 9242 crashing and rebooting itself?

It crashed at least 4 times while I was watching PVR'd material(hockey game in HD) yesterday. It has crashed randomly at least once per evening as well. So far it's been pretty frustrating... as each crash means at least 5 minutes before it comes back up again...

Just curious if any one else has experienced this behavior as well...

(PS- It was installed by Bell last week)

Why don't you set up the timer without the HD in the front and set it to a specific channel. That is how I have all my timers set up. Avoids all the duplications on the non-HD channels as it only looks at the specific channel you tell it to. Also, do NOT put the HD in front of the program name. Vpass will record it if the guide does or does not have the HD in front, but if you put HD in front and the guide does not have it, it will not record.
 
Are you using the HDMI connection for both video and audio, or are you using the optical port directly from the 9242 into an AVR for audio? I'm only experiencing audio "blips" from my 9242 where the audio will drop out for a second or so, but it's happening every few minutes and is becoming quite annoying. My 9242 is directly connected to an HDMI port on my LG plasma and the TV then sends an optical out to my AVR. I used to have my DVD player connected to the HDMI port on the LG and never experienced this, so I'm quite certain that this problem is related to the 9242.
 
Found first problem
my 9242 has an intermittent sound loss and screen flicker.
Sound loss is for about 20 sec every 2 to 5 min for every channel up to 830 after that I have only sound flicker
HDMI connected
may have to switch to component
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
BTW 9200 worked perfect with the same setup
 
I received the 9242 tuesday and quite pleased with it, I just dont understand why they still dont supply HDMI cables without dvi attachments. I had an extra one anyway, just seems like too many connections for no reason.
 
It seems the problem over night was somehow caused because I did not have both the cables hooked to the reciever yet. I finally got around to installing two from the multi-switch and so far so good. Although I think I could do more with my rogers box. too bad I can't get cable where I am at.
