Funny, I find the picture quality of the HD channels on my TV2 to be nothing short to outstanding. Actually, I am so satisfied that I am not planning on getting a HDTV for the master bedroom anymore. I have never liked the way SD looks on a HDTV.

I mostly watch HD content in the basement (with an HD80 front projector) and now is a big plus to have access to the HD channels (and recordings) on my SDTV in the master bedroom where I watch TV 60% of the time.

I am using a 27" Panasonic Flat Screen CRT TV connected to the composite TV2 output of the 9242. HD channels look as clear as 480p DVD's look via component. SD channels look the same as my old 3100 connected via S-Video.

I am very satisfied with the 9242.

I have hdmi into reciever (Pioneer Elite VSX=82TXS), hdmi out to Sony TV; no problems. I have tried Hdmi to TV and optical from 9242 to reciever no problems either???

Why oh Why Bell did you put that friggin lousy big ass sticker on the top of the 9242? You knew people would try to remove it did you not? Instead of the warning about shock or whatever it was.... it should have read:

"CAUTION!**CAUTION! If you try to remove this sticker be prepared to spend the next 6 hours straight trying to get all the bits of sticker and goo off the reciever. In fact, nothing short of nail polish remover, SOS pads, and finally the BLOWTOURCH will remove this sticker. CAUTION!**CAUTION!"

:mad::mad: Yes i actually did bust out the blowtourch on this thing......was the only thing that worked. lol

Good to know, I have been thinking of removing that sticker. I was worried it would turn into a big project.

I'm aware that HD channels don't have constant HD programming. We're now in the middle of the World Cup downhill season, and the World Cup programming I've seen thus far into the season and that originates in Europe, is in fact HD. But my experience so far also is that the guide doesn't necessarily have that specific text 'HD-' preceeding the title/description, which is exactly my point; yet another example of innacurate guide data.

As for your suggestion about the skipped by priority, yes there is a conflict, and I pointed it out in my original post. The show I want to record is on at 11am on CBC, and so all 18 of all CBC channels (including all the local CBC's in the 200 range AND the described video range) are conflicting with each other. It's trying to record all 18 different channel number instances of the exact same show. And as I pointed out, it selects 2 for recording (seems to choose the 2 with the lowest channel numbers) and then flags the rest as 'skipped by priority'.

The 'HD Preference' would be ideal, if it actually worked.

CTV HD East is HORRIBLE (Had to enable subtitles 6+ times an hour for Terminator the last 2 weeks) & it also happens on whatever shows are being simsubbed by CTV HD EAST. It's also happening CONSTANTLY on TSN HD  This is not unique to the 9242 as it's happening on my 9200 as well.

P.S. These audio drop outs are the WORST kind of audio drop outs: the ones where even when you rewind, you still can't hear what's being said (9 out of 10 times).

The Toslink optical connection on the Sony KDL46W3000 is output only. It's not an input. This is for outputting digital audio when using the ATSC tuner.

Installed my new 9242 over the weekend and i am already having some problems. I am using HDMI to my TV and optical to my receiver. This is what has happened about 4 times.
I will be watching a show, and I will go to the guide and select a new channel. The receiver freezes and all the lights on the front of the receiver go off. At this point you would think the receiver is off, but you can actually still pull up the guide and menus, but get no video or audio.

Has anyone experienced this problem????

After 2 months of perfect operation, the 9242 is missing alot of my pvr recordings now, they are set up but they don't start. Shame.

Ok thanks. Maybe I'll hold off then, I don't notice these on my 6100. Makes the 9242 less than useful then.

Manual is pretty clear.

Line mode. When you use this setting, in comparison to RF mode, the dynamic range is wider, which makes the music and loud noises louder, but voices quieter.

Line mode is the real 5.1 track and RF mode looks to be what Dolby has which is like a midnight mode.

Strange to hear about all these issues - makes me weary about feeling optimistic.

My 9242 which I've had for just over a week is a vast improvement over my BEV SD PVR (5900?). fast channel switching, fast browsing, no real issues other than the intermittent signal noise which I've always had from time to time (not unique to satellite). I love being able to record and watch simultaneously, or record two things at once (both in HD which was an unexpected perk since they claim one HD channel and one SD channel). I;ve got my fingers crossed but so far, so good for the receiver. I love it.

I just got off the phone with yet another Bell tech telling me they don't support HDMI related problems (which they blame the audio drop outs for.) They are sending me my 3rd receiver. I purchased my original a month ago directly from Bell. Has anyone tried switching to a rental option after purchasing?

Got the rental 9242 for couple days. Last night, just got my first glitch. When I was watching tv and the pvr came on to record. The tv picture just frozen. I waited for 5 minutes, and it still got stuck on the same picture. I had to go into the pvr and make sure it was recording, then came out to "live tv" before things resume "normal".

Glad you like the 9242, is really is an improvement over the 9200.

The reason you cannot get 1080p output from the 9242 is because there are no broadcasters using 1080p, it's as easy as that.

Also even though it will output at 1080i, you may find that if your HDTV has a native Res of 720i the images on fast moving sports look better if you set the 9242 to 720i.

For a single cable solution, you need a DPP LNBF and a DPP Separator. I bring these into Canada for use on my own High End installations and they work just great.
