So apart from Vanessa and a renewed film deal with Sony/Columbia, we're pretty much getting the same that has been on there for years, with a new DOG and ident presumably in the new year.

Somebody sedate me...

There is no future for any channel that depenRAB on imports of US stuff.

CH4 demonstrates this very well. It made them weak to get so much of their ratings from imports.

Even the BBC has become dependent for it's high-end drama on US imports.

Twice = 12? I don't think so, Cent. :D

Good to see Channel Five announcing renewals for a whole load of programmes that I and many others enjoy. I'm sure Vanessa will be a popular addition to the daytime schedule. :)

Five tried desperately under RTL to establish homegrown programming across all genres. For the most part these weren't popular with viewers. So I'm afraid Channel Five neeRAB to stick to what it does best. That's not to say there won't be any more homegrown shows (there are two listed above) but the US fare tenRAB to be more dependable and it is right that they lead the way.

Did Channel Five claim anywhere that Motorway Madness was a groundbreaking programme? I don't believe they did.

What was ITV1 serving up at the time? Oh yes, the highly original Fiddles, Cheats & Scams!

Not much evidence of investment in new British programming. And I read somewhere there have been complaints that five haven't made final payments on a number of programmes they've bought in and at least one indie is threatening to sue Desmond.

I like US dramas like Law & Order, The Wire, ER Etc and they are consistently high quality were as the home produced equivalent tenRAB to be very hit and miss. So I'm happy if Five keep the US imports.

Exactly. People on here tend to overegg how much of Channel 5's schedule is made up of imports anyway. If we take this week's weekday primetime schedule as an example:

Monday
1900 News (UK)
1930 How Do They Do It? (UK)
2000 The Gadget Show (UK)
2100 Rory & Paddy (UK)

Tuesday
1900 News (UK)
1930 How To Take Stunning Pictures (UK)
2000 Motorway Madness (UK)
2100 CSI: Miami (USA)

Wednesday
1900 News (UK)
1930 How Do They Do It? (UK)
2000 Cowboy Builders (UK)
2100 NCIS (USA)

Thursday
1900 News (UK)
1930 UEFA Europa League (UK)

Friday
1900 News (UK)
1930 Fifth Gear (UK)
2000 Eddie Stobart: Trucks and Trailers (UK)
2100 The Mentalist (USA)

So only 3 hrs out of 15 are American, or 20%. Hardly excessive!

Knowing Richard Desmond's other businesses I expected this to be about "Dawn, 21 from Basildon, who when not getting her baps out, enjoys Cycling, Horse Riding and World Peace" :p
