Everyone should be treated with courtesy, even if they are being rude?

General question not about me.
1.Definitely false / strongly disagree
2.Tends to be false / disagree (but not strongly disagree)
3.Could be true or false / neither agree nor disagree
4.Generally true / agree (but not strongly agree)

I choose 4 because if you do not treat people with courtesy even when they are being rude to you, you are only being as bad as them. However, if the person who is being rude goes too far, I think that it is OK for the other person to say "I'm sorry, but I'm not going to put up with this anymore", because the rude person needs to know when to stop.
