European "historical culture" question?

i heard a little thing about european "culture" in the 1700-1800s where "human waste" were simply thrown out of the window onto the streets instead due to lack of piping for wastage removal. and men were supposed to walk on the right side of the roads to "block" the splashes for women

is it true? or just a myth.

This is true, a gentleman would allow a woman to walk right up next to the side of buildings because waste was generally thrown out of windows into the street, as opposed to merely dropped out the window onto the sidewalk

MYTH this was made by wemon so the water in the streets didn't get on them from passing cars in the 50s

they still would have $#!% raining on them.
