Eragon

So I really enjoyed the movie. I went in knowing nothing, well, a little bit. But not a lot. I think because it's not such a well known book and story that they decided to make it a short movie, which I always think is too bad because it's the little moments that are always the faves. And it doesn't always have to be about the action.

Anyways, on with the review. I thought that the young cast was cast very well. I like pretty much all of the characters and actors cast. However the king, I forget his name, I thought was predictable as well as Jeremy Irons as Brom. When I saw those faces I was like, 'Dungeons and Dragons'. I know the guy who played the king wasn't in it, but JI was. But he got me pas it. I just am not a huge fan of big names. I mean, I like actors who are known, but aren't 'that' well known. And especially in a film like this, unknowns are probably always your best bets.

So I have to say I just don't get the menace that is the king. Don't know why everyone should be afraid of him and how he could possibly tak over 'the world' if you want to paraphrase it. They needed more character development.

I think as well, it would have done well to have a training montage. Cause I'm watching the movie and I'm like, 'How the heck does he know the elvish or magic words to certain things' since no one told him on screen.

The connection between Eragon (still think of Aragorn whenever I say the name) and Saphira was pretty good, though I wasn't the hugest fan of the voice. It was all right.

Okay now I just have to say how much I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Arya and the actress who plays/played her! It's always sketchy to cast the women roles and as well, warrior women. But Sienna Guilloy was AMAZING! Since I hadn't read the books, me and my sis and her friend, while watching we were all like....'Nooooo! She can't die!'

I looooved her. And there better be a sequel. They hinted at one at the end of the movie. So they kind of really have to. I mean, they haven't defeated the king yet. And so the story is left unfinished.

As for LOTR comparison. In the movie they tried to make it like that very much, so no kudos for creativity but that probably could be said of the book too. However, as you mention the shooting of the movies, I have to say that they did shoot them all at once. All 3 movies. So they only really had one budget to work from. And I think Peter Jackson is involved in WETA somehow. But it's not like they didn't have a big budget to work from . Of course not as large as some action/fantasy blockbusters, but they had a decent budget. But of course they had very skillful workers with CGI at WETA for the green screen things. I'm not sure who worked on this.

Anyways, I would go see the other movies. And now I'm intrigued enough to read the books. was planning on it, but it made me want to read it sooner now :D I love fantasy, and though it's not the most original plots and stuff, it's still probably going to be a fun read and fun movie(s) *crosses fingers*

this is what came up on google

A movie has to now make back TRIPLE its budget because marketing costs (at least in the U.S.) have become more expensive than the actual movies themselves in some instances. Marketing budgets can be in the high double digits ($10-$30+ million) if it is a major studio release. This is almost equal to a middle-of-the-road film's budget and is why films now must make back triple what they cost to make.

It used to be the marketing budget was part of the over-the-line budget... Anything that was not part of actually making the movie... But it is now it is part of the overall budget (including under-the-line) because marketing now dictates how a movie will be made which is why there are so many crap movies (not saying Eragon, is crap) that seem like nothing but 90 minute commercials for product placements and cross-promotional items like video games, soundtracks, etc.

This also has to do with the discussion about the rating because marketing already knows exactly what audience (demographic) this film is going to be marketed too (under-age kids and teens) and dictates it to some degree because studios want "safe" mass market films which is another reason why, IMO, a lot of the films being released these days aren't that good because they aren't treating the subject matter of some of the films in the proper way which would demand an R rating simply because the subject matter is more geared toward adults and not teens (this doesn't apply to Eragon; I am stating this in general).

In the book she's a witch and I really liked the character so I hope her acting is decent.

Avril Lavigne is doing a song for the movie. I'm interested in hearing what that sounds like.

A shadow would have been cool

I thought John was scary in Being John Malcovitch

Vader would choke you for trying to compare him :goof:
everyone keeps saying he looked like Wormtongue but i've never seen LOTR so I have no idea
Should google that dude...

dont know if I should read the book before I see the film...the movie looks ok, not my typical thing, but hey, it has Garrett Hedlund, so I will go for him

i picked up the book today in paperback. Figured i should read it before i see the movie. And i like it so far. I thought about buying the 2nd 1 too but the store had it in hardcover and usually Harry Potter is the only fiction series i trust in hardcover

All right so I was expecting so much more from this movie! I work in a theater so when people asked me these past few days what I thought of the movie, my first question to them is "Have you read the book?" The way it seems to me is if you've read the book you may like the movie but you will be disappointed like I was. I pretty much told people that on it's own it's a good movie, but in comparison to the book not so much.

The main thing that really bugged me was the relationship between Eragon & Brom (LOVED Jeremy Irons BTW) in the book he's alive for a good amount of it, which is good because you get to see how Eragon grows and learns from Brom. In the movie he dies an hour into it (the movies only 1hr 45min) and they didn't show enough of the bonding and training the two of them did so if you haven't read the book then his death just comes and goes. Granted they tried by having Durza (who looks like wormtongue from LOTR...with reddish hair...) kill him instead of him being killed by the Ra'zac, I guess to show how much of a threat Durza is or maybe to make it more heroic but like I said for me it just didn't have the same impact.

I really liked the portrayal of Saphira. The casting of Rachel Weisz was a wonderful choice she really did a good job. Plus as far as the CGI goes, Saphira looked pretty amazing!

Edward Speleers did a commendable job! If you disagree that’s fine I say that because I was skeptical on how this newcomer would do, so I set the bar a little low and he went passed it.

While they didn’t do much with the character of Murtagh, which saddened me, I was pleased with the performance that Garrett Hedlund gave for the time he was on screen. I want to see more of him in movies and so on.

All in all for all the things they left out, I enjoyed the movie

Can I just say that Joss Stone is in this movie which personally I think is pretty funny. I'm not sure if I mean this in a good way or a bad way. Never the less she is something of a talking point here in the UK if only because she doesn't like to wear shoes. I think she might sing a bit as well or something. Are you familiar this person?

She's in the new Japanese trailer and looks like she's blind - my computer is rubbish so I can only watch it in small. : : : : : FOX MOVIES : : : : :

Avril Lavigne is writing the Theme Tune to this movie - Words escape me, really they do.
