Engine Dies - Proplem Continues

OK, I thought I had this issue licked, but apparently do not. I detailed all the symptoms below. I am beginning to wonder if it is something with the fuel pump, filter or lines. Might explain why it happens when throttle is at 0 & clutch engaged. Cycling the kill or ignition would reprime the pump. Mmmm. Thoughts?
Problem has occurred about 7-8 times since I bought the bike 4 weeks agoOriginally thought it was related to addition of Fuelpak, but has just happened a couple times with stock ECU configurationAll occurances of the problem have been during 1st ride of the day (usually on cool mornings)All occurances have happened within 5-7 miles of starting the first ride of the dayAlways happens with trottle closed and clutch engaged (stopped or moving & shifting—both accelerating and decelerating) not at a steady cruise; the majority of instances (all but two) have been while deceleratingOnly engine dies; resembles kill-switch engagementAll lights remain onEngine light comes on, but no codesBike will not turn over at all (via starter or moving start attempt) until kill switch or ignition is cycled; once done, engine starts immediately
Usually does not happen again for the remainder of the riding that dayEngine runs smoothly both before and immediately after the incident…it just stops; no sputtering, roughness or backfiringOnce kill swith or ignition is cycled; engine starts up immediately every time

i am having a similar problem w/ 09 road glide .. dealer could not find any codes.. added update to ecu but did not fix .. took it to dyno to chk. idle program also.. only other possibility maybe bad computer....

Sorry to hear of your troubles. What bike do you have and can you list whatever you've already tried as fixes? My first thought would be a problem with the kill switch or it's wiring. I say this because of the engine not even cranking until you've cycled that switch. Then again, more information will help.

It's a 2008 Ultra Classic. I added Crusher slip ons and a SE air cleaner. Had a Fuelpak on and thought that was the problem. Took it off and it still happened. Only thing that makes me think it is NOT the kill switch is that it only happens at closed throttle. I would think a kill switch short could happen at any moment. It never happens at steady cruise.

It does, but I can't imagine it is that for the same reason I don't think it is the kill switch. It doesn't happen at just anytime; it happens only when the throttle is closed (if even for the time it takes to shift) and the clutch engaged. I would think a random electrical issue would have no regard for throttle position (other than if it were an issue with the TBW).

have you checked TBW plug at the bars and fairing surely sounds electrical if you need to recycle kill switch. I would also try disconnecting alarm and see if it still does it

This is just a thought, but if the ECU thought something was wrong when the engine shuts down, it would throw a code. I'm assuming no codes are thrown. That being the case, I would check the IAC for sticking or adjusted to high. If the IAC stepper is set to high or sticks, it doesn't kick in during decel or shifting (when throttle goes back to "0") and it feels like the motor is off when your slowing down and then pops in before you come to complete stop. Sometimes, it doesn't kick back in and the engine stalls out. When the IAC is operatingly correctly, it is a smooth transfer between throttle decel and idle stop. I run 40 steps at hot idle. 38-42 should be ok.
