OK, I thought I had this issue licked, but apparently do not. I detailed all the symptoms below. I am beginning to wonder if it is something with the fuel pump, filter or lines. Might explain why it happens when throttle is at 0 & clutch engaged. Cycling the kill or ignition would reprime the pump. Mmmm. Thoughts?
Problem has occurred about 7-8 times since I bought the bike 4 weeks agoOriginally thought it was related to addition of Fuelpak, but has just happened a couple times with stock ECU configurationAll occurances of the problem have been during 1st ride of the day (usually on cool mornings)All occurances have happened within 5-7 miles of starting the first ride of the dayAlways happens with trottle closed and clutch engaged (stopped or moving & shifting—both accelerating and decelerating) not at a steady cruise; the majority of instances (all but two) have been while deceleratingOnly engine dies; resembles kill-switch engagementAll lights remain onEngine light comes on, but no codesBike will not turn over at all (via starter or moving start attempt) until kill switch or ignition is cycled; once done, engine starts immediately
Usually does not happen again for the remainder of the riding that dayEngine runs smoothly both before and immediately after the incident…it just stops; no sputtering, roughness or backfiringOnce kill swith or ignition is cycled; engine starts up immediately every time
