I love animated films, and with Up (not the russ meyer film) and mary and max being quite emotional, I was just wondering if anyone knows any cartoons that bring them to tears. When thewind blows, mary and max and the hunchback ofnotre dame would have to be my 3

Probably the most intense because of it's slow, relentless spiral into despair is likely Studio Ghibli's 'Grave Of The Fireflies'. Watching two children slowly starve to death isn't comfortable viewing, but it's a masterpiece for all that.

Dumbo
Bambi
The Lion King
All get me !
Even the thought of the scene where Dumbos' mum is locked up in the trailer and she puts her trunk through the barred window, picks him up and gently rocks him from side to to side makes me fill up !
My eyes are watering even typing this !!:o

All of the above!! /\ (Thought I was the only one!)

Plus: Brother Bear, Monsters Inc (Kitty!), Wall E - hell, it would be easier to say that pretty much all Disney films have an emotional moment (for me anyway:D:D)

I couldn't watch it when we had it on Sky Plus. All my children are fans of studio Ghibli so I've kind of discovered them quite recently.
But that one I just couldn't take but the older ones watched it.

Did you know it was originally released as a double bill with Totoro in the US?
What were they thinking.

The (?) 1978 British Plague Dogs is in the same kind of animated vein of Watership Down, but pushing a vivisectionist angle, to do with, erm, dogs. It's never shown these days and doesn't seem to get talked about much, but those who have seen it talk of it having made for pretty dolorous viewing.

Thanks for this thread, you've reminded me of a lovely short I've not watched in ages, The Beauty of Life. It's basically the story of one man's life, told through animations of the drawings he makes at the time, so childish at the beginning, smarter and more sophisticated as it goes on (so don't be put off by the first couple of minutes!). And there's a gorgeous piano score, too.

I see it's scoring a 7.9 at IMDB, if only from 67 votes, but I think it deserves it. Oh, and 5 stars at YouTube, too. If you've 9 minutes 11 seconRAB to spare, go take a look.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time has a really sad moment at the end, I watched it subbed the first time through and couldn't believe that I'd welled up at it,:o.
