Educated and Knowledgeable Ones!: Norway Lights?

I've apparently been living under a rock lately, and just recently heard about those strange lights in Norway. It kind of creeps me out, and I know it's nerdy and "conspiracy theoriest" of me to question the Russian missile explanation, but you know...

For those who think it really is a failed missile and not some crazy black hole in the sky, is there a reason that this explanation suits you? Why?

Speaking of black holes. How would one come about randomly in the sky, and what would that mean for us Earthlings? Is it even possible?

OH... also, OMGZ is the world ending!!!??!

:) Thank you.

Emmy,

Satellites are constantly on the lookout for ICBM missiles and they can automatically detect any launches. When they do, messages are immediately sent out with information about the launch. The Norway Lights were accompanies by these messages that said a missile launch had been conducted. The Russians HAD to admit they fired the missile because everybody knew they did.

On the flip side, it should make you feel a little safer that when any country fires a missile, our military finds out about it almost immediately so they can protect us if they need to.

It was most certainly terrestrial in origin. Russia claims it was the result of a failed missile test, where the third stage blew a hole in the side of its engine nozzle, causing it to spin. But the way the light was, if it wasn't that, it was most certainly projected from somewhere on Earth.

If you look at the footage on something with a higher resolution than Youtube, it's pretty obvious that the spiraling material is being ejected by something like a malfunctioning rocket. Which is one of several reasons why I think that Youtube is a total waste.

Anyway, black holes cannot happen randomly. It is extremely difficult to create one, and fortunately for us there do not seem to be any within a hundred light years or so. If that had been a black hole, then it would have (and still would be) created a lot of problems for the Earth, it's magnetic field and atmosphere. If that spiral was truly a black hole, then the matter would be spiraling in, not being ejected out.

And the world will not end for another five billion years.

A Russian rocket spiraling out of control spewing fuel. The Russians admitted to BBC News that one of their ICBM submarine launched rockets had gone out of control.
