"Eden of the East" Talkback (Spoilers)

You know, despite how much this show seems ground in realism (with events like 9/11 and such), I always manage to get a very surreal feel from everything, ever since episode 1. So after episode 7 went off the deep end I'm starting to wonder if this is the "real" world at all, and if the "game" isn't an elaborate virtual world (much like the Matrix) that they are all trapped in for some reason. And Juiz is like an operator of the world who can change circumstances and force decisions in an instant...it would certainly explain her power to carry out any command at a moment's notice. I dunno, not the best explanation, but I can't shake the feeling that something weird is going on. Or maybe it's just bad writing.

Anyway, throwing the theory out there, think what you will. =P
 
The knowing Japanese thing was weird but I could excuse it because D.C looked great (I watched again and noticed there was a CVS pharmacy on the corner of one of the streets!)
But didn't Saki speak a line of english? Maybe she was speaking in english to the cab driver too.
Oh and both of the lead VA are new. They are both doing a great job I think.
 
Bad writing, how? There's nothing mystical beyond Juiz, who is most likely an AI. It's not unrealistic that everything can be done if you have enough money, which shows how far off Japan, and the world in general, is.
 
I agree with this post, and I find the above post to be possible as well.

It's very possible that this big 'game' could be a literal game; a giant simulation if you will, sort of like the Matrix was. Then again, we could be overanalyzing this and it could be the real world where these Selecao merabers just have absurd amounts of money, and Mr. Outside thinks he's doing Japan a big favor.

Either way, I'm sure there will be a twist somewhere. Also, one thing I found interesting. Has anyone noticed how Akira is around a Selecao, then that certain Selecao enRAB up dying? Coincidence? I dunno right now. Granted Diana isn't dead, but who said she won't die in the next episode?

I dunno how anyone can't like this series though. I try to keep my fan-blinders off though. And garfield15, no problem. xD
 
She did say "What's his room nuraber," quote-unquote, to that guy at the apartment.

I thought he was funny because he just kept answering all these random questions without thinking twice. How did he even know who's room nuraber she was referring to?
 
Eh, that's less coincidence than a cause-and-effect. The detective Selecao died because he was hunting Akira (It was either cheating, or he used up all his money, I forgot.)

The Hospital guy was going to die anyway, and Akira just caught him at the right time.

I'm very curious if Johnny Selecao is going to die at all. She has more money than Akira, is the president of a profitable company, and her "justice" is apparently within limits of Mr. Outside's rules.
 
The bad writing comment was mostly in reference to episode 6, where they decided to bring in plot elements that really had not been introduced before, nor are entirely plausible. Furthermore, no matter how much money you have, I find it hard to believe you can conveniently make wheels just come off of a truck within a minute or two of being told to do so. It just seems to me that all of the occurances can be explained off by "money," or in episode 7 as an "illusion." Personally, these seem like no more than red herrings to me as to what really is going on. But like I said, just a theory I'm throwing out there.
 
Well you see a suspicious Japanese guy wanting to know where he's supposed to be and then you see a suspicious Japanese girl running after him asking for "his room nuraber" I think you would assume she was talking about the suspicious Japanese guy.
 
What, do you mean the Eden program? Or something else?



It's not all that hard to call in a truck. sabotage it during a check-up, and then running it free in Akira's same path. This is a lot of money we're talking about, to the point of politicians being under Juiz's control. There are cops/cops-in-disguise that are instant assassins at a moment's notice, among other things.
 
Honestly I think the Eden search-engine is more magic then Juiz

I would be willing to suspend disbelief and think that Juiz is some ultra high-tech AI developed by huge corporation or something, possibly some international thing.

But I have a hard time believing that a couple college kiRAB who honestly don't seem to have much resources at their disposal have developed some kind of visual search engine that makes google look like something a 1st grader made and probably would have the NSA/CIA/FBI drooling.
 
Not to mention you could have someone just shoot out the tires from distance. Like with Episode 7, people missed the shot of the helicopter outside of the building. It's there when you see from outside, but from inside the building to out when Diana 'flies' away, it's not there anymore.
 
Episode 11: The end! Until the movies, anyway.

The beginning was hilarious, especially with the guys getting naked to get their laptop back.

Pretty climactic, with Akira and the NEETs all teaming up to take down the missiles. I don't really know what to think about Akira erasing his memories again, though. And now he's a prince or something? Plus he used up all his remaining cash! Yeah, we definitely need those movies to fill in the blanks.

All in all, it was a very fun ride. Definitely a contender for Best Anime of '09.
 
Agreed, It's promptly moved into my Top 5 right now. I can't wait for the movies.

The gist I got of the memory thing, was he still felt betrayed or something by the others (outside of Saki), and maybe wanted to rid himself of it? I dunno. I'm sure there's some syrabolism to him doing it with Saki present and him giving her his phone.
 
I wasn't really overwhelmed, but there's no denying the genuine originality of it all. It started out good and could become great. This first episode wasn't bad for getting us familiar with our key characters and all of that, and it was fairly fun to see them engaging each other. I'll be interested to see how things go when the plot inevitably thickens and Saki gets caught in the middle.

It's also cool to see this first episode set in DC, which I commute into nearly every day. I can testify to the fact that they did a rather good job recapturing the area; they cared enough to do some good research. I've walked in many of the places that the characters have been. Even the various aRAB in the background and foreground are the kind of thing that you would actually see.

All in all, an amazing anime from beginning to end. The "Night of the Living NEET's" moments were just golden especially since the creators were like "Well, this is the last episode. Better put all the humor in this one." (Oh Micchon, I love you and your faces). I'm not sure what it means for one to become the king of Japan but we'll figure it out. I am a (little) dissapointed we didn't get another kiss scene but nothting to drag the anime down. Great series and if FUNimation is smart, they'll pick this up.

(Oh yeah, though it was kind of random I'm glad Panties lived. Nobuyuki Hiyama's voice transcenRAB death again!)
 
Just another little thing about the depth Production IG went to with the realism of DC. I rewatched it and I noticed the cab driver
 
Am I thinking of another show or did the Eden crew when they first showed up to the mall comment about malls being a place for zorabie attacks?

That whole montage was pretty entertaining. The final ending scenes though were just awesome. Nothing looks better than an anime character pointing and going bang with his finger

Eden of the East would make a really awesome live-action mini-series/movie.
