E61 & different keypads confusion...

Sorry for the new thread but I promise I've done MANY searches for E61/keypad/keyboard/euro/etc. and came up with nothing helpful...

I am trying to figure out which of the eBay sellers are selling E61's with which keypad version. As we all know by one from seeing pictures there seem to be two layouts. Car/Chr for the lower right button, ? vs. 'Ctrl' key on the lower right, the '?' and different currency symbols on the left side, etc.

I suppose the one with the "weird" symbols and 'Car' instead of 'Chr' is the Euro version?

Regardless, I do not want that one. I want the "regular" keypad.

If anyone can confirm which of the reputable eBay sellers (plemix/x1387, phonesource-usa, ctimiami, etc.) sell each phone, it'd be very helpful and I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I talked to them yesterday. They currently only have the grey box e61 from nokia-asia. If you want to check you can call them at 954-893-9800 to check stock.

x1387 happened to send me what you're calling the Euro layout, but it does have a control key and two shift keys. No currency, though.

Your best bet is to e-mail each seller and ask them, as they may each have several different versions.

I think it would be to your benefit to find an import shop and buy it in person.
That way you'll know for sure which characters show up on your keyboard.

Yeah they don't necessarily know what keypad they are sending you. As far as I can tell there are three different layouts. I have a e61 from nokia-asia, which includes a normal qwerty keypad but also allows for chinese character entry, there also seems to be a keypad for nokia.es for spanish and portuguese languages, and then finally a UK one.

Thanks... That one might not be so bad, actually, but I wonder if the Asian characters are all over the place or just in few places.

I'll have to try to google and see if I can see a screenshot of that layout somewhere out there...

I have bought three Nokia E61's from ctimiami, the first two were EU versions with the regular english keyboard (Polish manual, White box, Chr key). The third which I just received is from nokia-asia (English manual, Grey box, Chr key), it supports english & simplified chinese as text input. There are a few asian characters on the keypad, but it is still has full english qwerty input.

I called ctimiami up and asked what the deal was, he said their inventory changes. I would call up any buyer first AND ask they post a picture of the exact keypad you are buying.

BTW - the other differences in the phones with various keypad layouts are: the packaging (white box/grey box), manual language, software language support (i.e. english, polish, chinese etc), and contents of preinstalled software on mini-sd card (the nokia-asia card included a chinese/english dictionary that is not present on the EU models)

there you go. I actually like the layout, but I don't do any chinese character input.

didn't get the image working properly but you get the picture.

E61 & different keypads confusion...

Thanks for the replies everyone.. it helps a lot.

Yeah, I'm emailing all the sellers and asking specifically which keypad they have on theirs.

Sounds like I want a White box (with Polish manual, which I wouldn't mind since I'd just grab the English manual PDF off nokia.com or whatever).

Any idea what color is the box for the Euro/Spanish keypad (?/?/Cha keys, etc.) that so many seem to have gotten?

Whoa... thanks very much for that.

Does not look bad at all... and since ctimiami is actually cheapest on eBay right now (I think), I'll prolly end up going with him.

If anyone really wants a particular type of key layout from a seller, it's still best to call or see a photo to find out exactly.

orbadelic's image is the Simplified Chinese version, this is the Traditional Chinese HK version, and Thai language versions ("Worldwide English") all come in the same kind of gray box.

E61 & different keypads confusion...

There are actually a lot of different English qwerty layouts, the difference being the keys to the left and right of the space bar. The APAC version I've seen also has ? and ? on the keypad eventhough APAC languages don't seem to use them...

Okay, my palm looks just like the Traditional HK version, but when I type on it, it types like Layout #1 on page 1.

So I can't really type any symbols without using the Car key. Anyone know how to fix this?

As I mentioned before, I have that key layout, but only have Spanish and English languages available, and the phone came in a white box, not a gray one.

Decent option, but I'd rather just get the UK version from the beginning for a nice price. Good advice for those looking to make the change after the fact though!

i have seen 3 different english keypads for the E61... frankly, i am looking forward to be able to change the language support of the phone and change the keypad to the english keypad that i want, so i hope they put at least 5 different english keyapd to choose from...

Just got my e61 today from iboxdirect, and it was the euro keypad. I called ahead of ordering and asked that (at the very least) they do not send me one with the arabic keypad. I was VERY happily surprised when I opened it.

Hmm, I bought mine from phonesource-usa and it came in the regular standard Nokia E61 decorated retail box, has the keyboard with Car in the bottom right corner, and a full thick English manual. He also threw in a US plug adapter.
