E50 - New Firmware 06.41.3.0 available via NSU

No pop here and the menus are certainly faster! I've also noticed that the signal bar seems to give me a more accurate reading. Before the update it would always read full in parts of my house that I know the strength dips and now it reacts accordingly. Really my only complaints were the popping noise and the standby icons and menu icons would start flashing....havent noticed it flash yet but that phenomenon was rare anyway....also, I too still have the "E" while connected to Edge but it appears you found your answer anyway.

why because the e62 is the same exact phone - wifi?

and plus it costs way less!

on ebay e62 unlocked is like 220.00

e61 is like 364.00 so if u think 120.00 is worth Wifi have at it,

My E50 (RM-171 non camera version) was updated last week when the NSFU update supported it and it's fixed the flashing icons and earpiece popping noise quite nicely. However, it's now left it almost impossible to use it W/O a bluetooth earpiece. If I use the phone without the BT EP it sounds like a strong wind is blasting through the earpiece everytime I speak. Now people on the other end are complaining about the noise as well. I generally use my headset for more than 90 percent of my conversations but the few i'm not are driving me mental...anyone else with similar problems.??

Well, I bit the bullet and updated the firmware. It went off fine and I did not brick the phone. However, the memory card seems bricked. It now asks for a password!! I have never set a password. Is the only option format it in a card reader? I had taken a backup and removed the memory card before updating.

Okay, just finished updating my E50-2 (no camera) phone. No brick! Yay! Didn't take too long and be sure to back up your data and apps otherwise you'll have to redo/config/download everything all over again.

So far I've noticed:

"E" is working for EDGE.
Menus snappier? Meh... I didn't think they were slow before.
Java apps seems speedier.
"No cal. entries for today" still shows

Other than that, not much different. I never had any popping sounds, so I can't comment on that.

Is that the price of an unlocked, unbranded E62?

It's personal preference. I wouldn't want a phone that size unless it had some really great things going for it, which it does, but wifi is one of the biggest to me. The ability to browse the internet at speeds faster than EDGE provides, VOIP, and another connectivity option are all things that appeal to me. Wifi can also be used in place of a data plan for some (not me).

If I were a Cingular customer, then I would look a lot harder at the E62. After discounts and rebates it comes to $100 with a two year contract, which I think is a really good deal. At $220 I would rather spend $20 more to get an unbranded E50. Every phone has quirks.

It seems that it only happens with the headset. I tried getting things sent via bluetooth on other phones and my phone vibrates but it doesn't restart. I don't have another headset to try it with. But yeah, it seems to only be the headset. So strange.

When I have my bluetooth plugged it my phone, sometimes it restarts when I get a text message! But when I disconnect my bluetooth it's fine! Although this update so far has fixed my low memory problem but this is just annoying to have to watch the phone turn off and turn on by itself, and then it comes out with the voicemail logo when I have no voicemail at all. I'm going crazy cause it keeps restarting itself!

I've had that same problem too.

SOmetimes if I speak too loudly the earpiece buzzes back at me like a speaker that is getting too much power!

I just got mine 2 days ago and today was my first day of heavy use....the popping is twice as bad as it was on my N73. Unfortunately, I just tried to update my non-camera version and it says there is no update for my phone. Mine is RM-171 running the firmware:
v 06.27.1.0
10-07-2006
RM-171
Nokia E50

....anyone succesfully update from this. I tried it a few times to no avail. If I go through the pops for the next couple of days i'm going to lose my mind.

I also have the E50 RM-171 and updated to the new firmware. I had the "popping noise" bug before but that problem is now fixed. I have been using the phone for about 10 days now and it works perfectly; none of the issues as have been described here. So, what you are describing may not be a firmware issue.

Well it's pretty annoying that it worked before the update. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem or knows if there is any fix for it.
