Dying from reflux - it's killing me!

Never believed in acid suppressors. If you suppress the acid, your body will try to produce more acid to replace the acid you are removing.

Now, before I get scolded for being too oversimplistic (and I am), I had a mild case of acid reflux. I drank vinegar which contains acetic acid, a weak acid. Instead of adding a base, like some of the medications available, I added a weak acid because something acidic, but NOT AS ACIDIC as stomach acid, will actually create a buffer system of sorts and the acid reflux is gone. It doesn't necessarily suppress the acid production, but buffers what is there, more so to some extent. (I don't really want to explain all the mechanisms of this and I'm sure no one wants me to either).

That was just my small narrow-minded instance, but it made a heck of a lot of scientific sense to me after I did it.

I bought some over counter Zantac, it's been working great. The difference is so amazing. :D I'm not taking the prescriptions anymore since they didn't help. Or betaine, that definetly didn't work out well.

I tried everything as well as mine was off the charts bad. One thing that helped a little but more than a lot of meRAB. I would mix baking soda with water (half and half) very horriable to drink but the relief was fast. I tried every medicine they had out and I found only one would kind of help (when I remeraber I will post). I had mine fixed with surgery and it has definantly worked, however I have had many problems from the operation. Dont believe the doctors when they say that there is no real problems. I have been asked many times if I would still have the surgery done if I knew then what I know know. I was tired of throwing up blood every night and not able to lay down as the acid was so bad, so yes. But just know it isn't a walk in the park after the proceedure has been done.
