Never believed in acid suppressors. If you suppress the acid, your body will try to produce more acid to replace the acid you are removing.
Now, before I get scolded for being too oversimplistic (and I am), I had a mild case of acid reflux. I drank vinegar which contains acetic acid, a weak acid. Instead of adding a base, like some of the medications available, I added a weak acid because something acidic, but NOT AS ACIDIC as stomach acid, will actually create a buffer system of sorts and the acid reflux is gone. It doesn't necessarily suppress the acid production, but buffers what is there, more so to some extent. (I don't really want to explain all the mechanisms of this and I'm sure no one wants me to either).
That was just my small narrow-minded instance, but it made a heck of a lot of scientific sense to me after I did it.
