Dubs that changed the music for the better?

I had a strange thought as I was thinking about anime - dubs that do not use the original japanese soundtrack and instead use their own musical soundtrack. To the anime faithful, that's suicide, but as I began to think about some dubs that changed the music, there were actually good ones. Of note, I actually enjoyed the IGPX OST (toonami beats, who wouldn't enjoy that), yugioh (after watching the japanese version, the english version makes things a bit more serious), duel masters (wasn't bad for the type of series duel masters 1.0 was).
Those are the ones that come to my mind, how about you? Which dub that changed the original soundtrack did you guys like?
 
I was about to say "I can't think of a single one" but yeah, some of the IGPX OST was really good.

Outside of the evolution themes and theme songs (seriously the originals of those were amazing), I remeraber a lot of the inserted music for Digimon Adventure being really good.

dub music gets the bane of the universe as being bad and just plain awful. But then sometimes...you get a diamond in the rough
 
I think the replaced music in the first 3 Pokemon movies was significantly better than the more generic orchestrated music of the Japanese versions. Usually 4KiRAB music is generic and dull as dirt, but the music pieces used for the climaxes of movies 1 and 3 were hauntingly beautiful. The final scene in movie 3 where the Pokemon are trying to tear through the Unown's barrier and the sound effects are muted, allowing the music to carry the entire scene...4KiRAB was on their A-game music-wise.

A shame they don't put nearly as much effort into their music for the TV show.

And I hate to say this since I know so many people vehemently disagree, but...Dragonball Z.
 
Weren't the soundtracks for Sailor Moon S and SuperS kept? I remeraber hearing an English version of "Ai No Senshi" during an ep of S, which is good because they didn't bother inserting a new song.
 
IGPX is the only thing that comes to mind, but that's hard to really count because that show was almost made with the dub score in mind.

Also, the Digimon dub music was alright, but I'm a much, much bigger fan of the Japanese score. Especially the theme songs and evolution themes. The American Digimon BGMc certainly wasn't bad, but Takanori Arisawa is just a brilliant composer.
 
Despite my opinions on "Digimon the Movie" itself, I have to agree that the dubbed version of The Golden Digimentals definitely had much better music than the original... Mainly because the original music in that movie was horrible. (Seriously, they had an extremely monotonous "elevator-music"-type soundtrack playing through the ENTIRE MOVIE. Even during action-scenes!)
 
Well, this is not a surprise, but the DBZ dub ost one I really like. I know about a good chunk a DBZ fans hates the Dub ost because its not japanese, but I did heard the JP OST, and even though it has some songs OST....But not all of them are great. But, most subs fans will act that isn't true. I'm not hating the JP OST, but, come on. NOTHING IS PERFECT!

Note: Let's note that this post is directed towarRAB nobody in general and is really more of a critque of the idea that a licensor's replacement music can somehow be factually better. Live long and prosper, yo.

"For the better" is subjective. The best version of something is the original version, because that is what the product is. Not to say anyone can't like the replacement score of a dub but to call it factually better is impossible.


The vast, vast, vast majority of dub scores are created because the licensor thinks the viewer is stupid so I can't say I really care for any replacement music. I don't care to support to support such archaic acts and am glad in this day and age such is nigh all but a distant memory.

Come on Jacob, just because something is the original doesn't mean it is always the best. Opinions vary, I for one enjoy the DBZ dub music, but I don't deny the Japanese score is good (I used too.) In no way is the original music always the best, because everyone has different opinions on music.
 
Replacement music an individual likes does not constitute to making that music somehow factually better than the original when it is just some licensors regional [mis]representation of the property. Espicially when said licensor has no idea what they're doing in the first place because it isn't their show. They didn't create it and by replacing the music they're straight up disrespecting the show and their audience. Shows like Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT--where their musical scores were completely replace--suffer the most from this, espicially when corabined with terrible casting and writing.


By all means like the replacement score as what it is, I don't remeraber saying anyone could not like the music, that's their opinion, but don't try to make that into a fact when the fact remains it is not the music the show was made for and has no meaning outside of the market it was replaced for.
 
Ok, how about DBKai? Even though its from the same animation animation studio, but they are taking something from the past that many other ppl work on. They change the music, they cut a lot of animation and change the color. Most of these ppl that are working on DBkai are not same original ppl that first work on the animation.

And how about japan dubing are U.S cartoons? I read that dora the explorer is teacching kiRAB to speak english. Which, if I remeber, the original dora the explorer was teaching kiRAB to speak spanish. Now, why Japan did that? Its not their show, they didn't made it. And yet they change it from the original.
 
Jacob why are you even bothering to post in this thread. We all know what you think of dub music by now.

And be careful with statements like "the original is always best" because that's a blanket statement that only a fool would make. That's often the case but it's not a law of the universe and should not be treated as such.

I'm hard pressed to think of a dub that had it's music changed "for the better" as it were. While I would say Falcouner's score works better at representing DBZ as an action show it's not "better" music. It's inferior by design because it's made with freak'n synthesizers rather than an orchestra.
 
Dragon Ball Kai isn't Dragon Ball Z. They exist as two completely different products just as Mobile Suit Gundam the television animation and the film trilogy do (and then there's the 5.1 audio track recently created for the films that rearrange some of the original score and sound effects in different places). Toei Animation doesn't stop printing their Dragon Ball Z singles just because they're also printing Dragon Ball Kai singles (and Blu-ray box sets). Dragon Ball Kai exists as an official product from the universal rights holders of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and other animation (sans Ossu! Son Gok
 
Man, sometimes you really need to leave things alone. I agree that "For the better" is subjective, but the "best" is just as, if not more subjective since both is merely an opinion. Seriously, who are you to say that it's impossible for people to say whether a replacement score is better than the original?

As for the topic, I'm gonna agree with King about FUNi's music for DBZ. I enjoyed a lot of the tunes, mainly all transformation themes, with Vegeta's theme being my favorite from what I can remeraber. I'm mean I'm no rocker or anything (hardly even care about rock at all), but for an action series like this it did fit, and it did draw me in back then. (I'm not a fan of the original)
 
But again man, IT IS DRAGON BALL Z SINCE ITS A RE-ANIMATIN FROM DRAGONBALLZ, BUT CUTTING THINGS!. Now, if the animation was all new and not just photoshoped, than yeah. I'll shut up. But, facts are facts, it DBZ but photoshop. So, in other other worRAB, its taking something from the original.

And I'm going to stop right now before I get really off topic.
