Briskly walking through street lights, tripping every third step, and
looking back every fourth--David was being followed. And every fourth
step, he'd see their black faces silhouetted against the blackest
night he swore he ever did see--they were gaining.
His breath turned vapor and fogged forward his face and his feet beat
ever discording notes against the pavement--they were gaining.
His shoulder was grabbed, his self turned around; something was demanded,
and David lashed out. He threw a right hook and one's ear began
to swell--he held it and backed away. A figure lunged, bashing David into
another figure whom David tried to elbow--he began to flail. A fist
lashed out against restraints and collided with tits--Rachel's tits--"I'm sorry!"
David found himself in a bed, breathing hard, beading sweat. He
apologized again. Rachel pained. Rachel accepted. They fell back
into sleep.
__
Rachel and I woke up--her for work, me to see her off--and she didn't
seem in a bad mood. The whole scene in the night seems really blurry
to me--I really had been asleep. And I'm wondering if I should
apologize again and explain myself, or if I should simply let it wash over.
