Because the have nothing to offer.

As an atheist, the one point I hear most often is "Atheism has nothing to offer me." This makes me think religious people are in it just for what they can get. Dragon's don't offer anything but death, so there is no interest in them.
 
Christians see the sense this argument as it applies to dragons, but not "god". I'm not sure what it would take for them to apply Appeal to Common Opinion to their own belief system.
